As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Carbon Robotics you will play a key role in developing new mechanical and structural robotic systems that will radically change how our customers do business. You will immediately bring your significant experience architecting, designing, analysing, prototyping, producing, and supporting new products to multiple cornerstone programs currently under development. As part of a growing Mechanical Engineering team you'll help mentor and grow more junior engineers to help ensure the whole team succeeds. This role can be based in our Seattle or Everett office.
What you'll do:
- Work on a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team to ensure the successful development, deployment, and sustainment of multiple revolutionary robotics products.
- Architect, design, analyze, test, and support robot/vehicle primary structures, electronics enclosures, complex actuated systems, and life safety critical sensor installations.
- Support, and at times lead, component and system level qualification test design and execution.
- Lead initial production builds with the manufacturing team at our Richland, Washington facility.
- Meeting our customers where they are, in farms and fields across the country, ensuring your designs will and do meet their needs
- Own Standards and Compliance scoping and documentation for the products you design.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for Success:
- 8 to 15 years experience designing, testing, producing and supporting complex mechanical and structural parts, assemblies, and systems in the automotive, agricultural, aerospace, or equivalent markets.
- High level of proficiency in the use of CAD and Analytical tools (Solidworks and Ansys Mechanical).
- Extensive experience designing and producing most or all of the following; sheet metal, bar stock, welded, machined, thermoplastic and composite parts.
- Extensive experience designing for harsh outdoor environments to protect against water ingress, rust, corrosion, and shock/vibe damage.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly prototype, troubleshoot, and iterate designs with both deep ownership and team collaboration.
- Demonstrated ability to work with direct and matrixed management to achieve timely objectives.
- Highly desired to have past experience working with component vendors to find acceptable COTS components when possible, while also being able to lead Build to Spec and Build to Print vendors.
- Highly desired to have past experience designing to SAE, DOT, and other applicable standards/codes.
- Highly desired to have past experience as a Responsible Engineer, Project Engineer, Technical Program Manager, or similar.
- Highly desired to have past experience working with a test engineering organization to set up, operate, and analyze results from shock/vibe and structural testing.
- Willingness to travel ~10% of the time to support products in the production & field environments with a demonstrated ability to work directly with internal and external stakeholders/customers
- BS+ in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
