Job DescriptionSummary This vacancy is for aWG-3703-10, Welder- NIE , WG-3703-10 located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION FACILITY SOUTH PORTLAND in SOUTH PORTLAND , Maine. Responsibilities You will serve as a Welder and be responsible for work on Lighthouses, aids to navigation ( ATON ), barges, boats, ships and small vessels, and other associated equipment. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Welding various components of a ship including the shell, broken or cracked engine parts, framing, inner bottoms, tanks, boilers, decks, bulkheads, superstructures, masts, stacks, ventilation ducts, railings, Class I piping and similar components. Welding prefabricated subassemblies, buoys, davits, pressure vessel tanks, piping and similar items. Removing and replacing interferences in way of welds, fitting brackets and machinery foundations and fitting minor structural braces, gussets or patches. Adjusting all welding controls to insure that qualified welding procedures are maintained. Requirements Conditions of Employment All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Key Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Must be registered or exempt from the Selective Service. See www.sss.gov A one-year probationary period may be required. Suitable for Federal employment determined by background investigation. This is a Bargaining Unit position. Selectee must provide a valid state drivers license and safe driving record. Selectee subject to successful completion of pre-employment medical exam.
