Foreman - Facilities & Grounds Maintenance Expected Starting Rate: $100,889 (DOQ)* The City of Des Plaines Public Works & Engineering Department is looking for a hands-on leader to join our team as a Foreman of Facilities & Grounds Maintenance . In this role, you'll have the opportunity to make a visible impact across the community by ensuring City-owned buildings, grounds, and systems are safe, well-maintained, and operating at their best. Responsibilities: Supervise and coordinate staff and contractors in facility and grounds maintenance, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general building operations. Ensure optimal functioning of mechanical, electrical, fire/life safety, access control, elevator, and outdoor systems. Oversee renovation and repair projects, monitoring contractor performance, safety, and compliance with specifications. Develop preventative maintenance programs and maintain accurate records, reports, and work orders. Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required; technical coursework or training in facilities or construction preferred. At least five years of progressively responsible experience in facility, building, or grounds maintenance, including one year in a supervisory or lead role. Strong knowledge of building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry) and safety practices. Proven ability to lead, train, and evaluate staff while fostering teamwork and accountability. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to manage reports and schedules. Valid Illinois driver's license required; CDL with endorsements preferred or ability to obtain one. Why Des Plaines?
