We are seeking an Estimator that is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with Mechanical Engineering expertise to join our growing plumbing and heating company in a strategic hybrid role that goes far beyond traditional estimating. This is not just about producing numbers - it's about shaping how the company operates, grows, and wins work.
This role blends technical engineering expertise, estimating skill, and process innovation to improve how we operate from bid to build. Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Project Development
Prepare accurate, detailed cost estimates for mechanical piping systems and related infrastructure projects.
Analyze project specifications, blueprints, and technical documents to develop competitive bids.
Conduct site assessments to evaluate scope, risks, and opportunities.
Collaborate with project managers and field teams to ensure realistic pricing, schedules, and scopes of work.
Technical Leadership & Engineering
Apply mechanical engineering expertise to optimize system designs for efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and compliance.
Stamp drawings and provide engineering approvals for design-build and engineered projects.
Identify and implement value engineering solutions that improve profitability and client satisfaction.
Serve as a technical resource for project teams, estimating, and operations.
Process Improvement & Innovation
Evaluate and refine company estimating processes for speed, accuracy, and repeatability.
Develop standardized procedures that can be scaled across teams and future locations.
Implement technology solutions, automation, and AI tools to increase efficiency across estimating, engineering, and project management.
Document and train staff on best practices, creating a culture of continuous improvement.
Business Development & Strategic Growth
Partner with leadership to develop strategic budgets, forecasts, and growth plans.
Support contract negotiations and participate in high-level client presentations.
Identify and pursue new markets, with a focus on design-build and performance-based projects.
Build and maintain strong relationships with general contractors, engineers, and decision-makers.
Cross-Department Collaboration
Work closely with all departments - estimating, project management, field operations, purchasing, and service - to identify inefficiencies and improve coordination.
Provide engineering insight to procurement strategies, labor planning, and resource allocation.
Participate in company-wide initiatives to enhance communication and project delivery.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited).
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
3+ years of experience in mechanical systems, HVAC, plumbing, or related fields.
Proven ability to analyze, improve, and document processes in a technical environment.
Proficiency with estimating software, CAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong communication, presentation, and client-facing skills.

Experience in commercial construction estimating or project management.
Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems.
Familiarity with design-build project delivery.
Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
Experience in a growth-stage construction or engineering company.
