A Project Designer at HOK collaborates with the Project Manager and Project Architect to guide design development through all project phases. They set the design direction, lead presentations, and coordinate with interior, landscape, sustainability designers, engineers, and consultants to ensure a cohesive and well-integrated design.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership

  • Originates and develops creative design concepts and the design documents during all phases of the project.
  • Incorporates Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into projects.
  • Develops solutions to design problems.
  • Oversees design team or less experienced designers to ensure design intent.
  • Mentors and directs the work of less experienced staff, may participate in professional development reviews.
  • Fosters a commitment to external and internal client service.

Client Interface

  • Regularly communicates with clients to verify design requirements and specifications, progress reviews and design delivery.
  • Prepare client presentations and presents design concepts and drawings.

Business Development

  • Supports the marketing and business development activities of the office when needed.

Teamwork

  • Provides project communications to team as required.
  • Attends on-site visits and client meetings to verify design requirements and deliver design progress reviews.
  • Participates in team meetings to ensure the design intent is consistently in adherence.
  • Performs as Team Leader on projects.
  • Leads a small team of junior designers in developing solutions to project problems.
  • Participates in project reviews regarding project costs, budgets and adherence to schedule.
  • Responsible for tracking electronic project data and files.
  • Facilitates team internal and external project communications.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or equivalent in education or experience required. Master's degree preferred.
  • 5-10 years design experience preferred
  • Licensed Architect with current registration in your region preferred.
  • LEED accreditation or Green Associate preferred.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong graphic skills for diagrams, renderings and project related drawings.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge about sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines.
  • Ability to work in team environment and supervise others.
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in the basic technical skills of architecture including the following computer skills:
  • Proficiency in Rhino and Enscape is required
  • Thorough knowledge of Revit/Building Information Modeling (BIM).
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign graphic software required
  • Proficiency in Grasshopper is preferred

OTHER:

  • Travel may be required.
  • Overtime may be required.

Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, education, and location. The reasonably estimated annual salary range for this position in Washington D.C. is $90,000 - $100,000.
