Sr. Project Engineer Job Description

The Sr. Project Engineer is tasked with designing solutions for complex water treatment applications and serving as a consultant to both internal and external stakeholders. This role includes the responsibility of training, supporting, and educating others within the department, ensuring that engineering standards and practices are upheld and advanced.

Responsibilities

  • Design, specify, and interpret P&IDs, BOMs, customer specifications, and O&Ms.
  • Provide submittal and start-up support.
  • Specify component materials, sizing, and functions based on application.
  • Confirm product performance through designing and conducting operational tests or research.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
  • Create P&IDs and component tag lists for production use.
  • Provide engineering support by addressing questions and requests from various stakeholders.
  • Seek external resources to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and seek technical support.
  • Assist in training and development of new employees, sharing field knowledge.
  • Promote continuous improvement ideas and assist employees in their implementation.
  • Lead the development of design standards.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to department members, delegating tasks as necessary.
  • Complete performance reviews for department employees.
  • Assist Purchasing in vendor cost reduction efforts.
  • Ensure adherence to budgeted labor hours for the Project Engineering Department.
  • Maintain budgeted material costs for projects.
  • Track project status daily and report to the Engineering Manager weekly.
  • Address personnel issues and concerns as needed.
  • Approve PTO and review timesheets for department employees.
  • Work on-site at least 4 days per week to support team collaboration and leadership visibility, with 5 days preferred.
  • Occasional travel to customer jobsites or tradeshows (approximately 5%).
  • Perform other tasks, duties, or projects as assigned by management.

Essential Skills
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a four-year college in Environmental, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering; or two to five years related experience and/or training.
  • Experience with AutoCAD.
  • Experience in designing piping systems (2+ years).
  • Ability to perform calculations necessary for drawing creation.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures.
  • Proficiency in writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and customers.
  • Familiarity with Internet software, Excel Spreadsheet software, Word, and Adobe Word Processing software.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Previous experience leading a team.
  • Previous ERP experience.
  • Experience specifying system components for operation and monitoring of filtration systems or similar technologies/equipment.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Chaska, Minnesota.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $125000.00 - $130000.00/yr.

144 hours (18 days) of annual Paid Time Off (PTO). The amount increases after 5 years of
employment.
Paid Holidays (Schedule of our Paid Holidays is available upon request).
Daily Per Diem (when traveling for business needs). All flights and hotel paid for by the
company.
