HGA is seeking aSubstation Construction Inspectorto support operations inDurango, CO.The
Substation Construction Inspector is responsible for inspecting, monitoring, and documenting
substation construction activities to ensure all work is performed safely, in compliance with project
specifications, industry standards, and applicable codes. This role serves as the owners representative
in the field, providing quality assurance throughout construction, testing, and commissioning activities.
Key Responsibilities
Inspect substation civil, structural, electrical, and grounding work to verify compliance with drawings,
specifications, contracts, and standards
Monitor contractor activities to ensure adherence to approved construction methods, schedules, and
safety requirements
Identify, document, and report non-conforming work; follow up to verify corrective actions are
implemented
Verify installation of major substation components, including foundations, steel structures, buswork,
breakers, transformers, control buildings, conduit, cable, and grounding systems
Observe and document equipment installation, testing, and commissioning activities
Review and maintain accurate daily inspection reports, progress photos, field notes, and punch lists
Coordinate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and utility representatives to resolve field
issues
Support project closeout activities, including final inspections and as-built documentation
Promote and enforce site safety policies and procedures at all times
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
5+ years of experience in substation construction, inspection, or related field work
Strong knowledge of substation construction practices, electrical equipment, and safety standards
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules
Working knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE, and OSHA regulations
Strong attention to detail, documentation, and communication skills
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites
Valid drivers license and ability to travel to project sites as required
Preferred Qualifications
Technical training or certifications preferred
Prior utility or owner-representative inspection experience
Journeyman-level electrical experience or lineman background
Experience with substation testing and commissioning support
Familiarity with quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes
The pay for this position will be in the $41-$63 per hourrange.
