Job Description
Summary/Objective
The Paving Operator is responsible for operating an asphalt paver to lay hot mix asphalt on roadways, parking lots, and other surfaces. This role plays a critical part in producing a smooth, consistent finished surface and requires strong coordination with the paving crew to ensure highquality results. The ideal candidate is safetyfocused, detailoriented, and experienced with heavy equipment used in asphalt paving operations.
Essential Functions
Operate Asphalt Paver
- Safely operates an asphalt paver to spread hot mix asphalt to specified widths, depths, and slopes.
- Monitors and adjusts machine settings to maintain consistent flow and distribution of asphalt.
Coordinate Paving Workflow
- Works closely with screed operators, roller operators, and other crew members to ensure seamless paving operations.
- Communicates effectively with the crew to maintain proper speed, alignment, and coverage.
Quality Assurance
- Ensures asphalt is placed smoothly, evenly, and at correct thickness to meet project specifications.
- Continuously monitors the mat behind the paver and makes adjustments as needed to correct imperfections.
Equipment Care & Safety
- Conducts preoperation checks and routine maintenance on the paver.
- Reports mechanical issues promptly to maintain equipment reliability.
- Follows all company and OSHA safety procedures, including proper PPE use and workzone awareness.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience operating an asphalt paver or similar heavy equipment strongly preferred
- Understanding of asphalt paving techniques and material behavior
- Ability to work in a fastpaced outdoor environment under varying weather conditions
- Strong teamwork and communication abilities
- Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to standards

Work Environment
This position involves working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow. Travel to onsite work locations is required, both within the state and occasionally out of state. Reliable transportation and flexibility with travel schedules are essential. All necessary safety equipment and training will be provided to ensure a secure and productive work environment.
Physical Demands
Candidates must be comfortable performing physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions year-round. Responsibilities include frequent lifting and carrying of materials or equipment weighing up to 75 lbs, regular climbing and working from ladders, and extended periods of standing, walking, bending, and kneeling.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
40+ hours per week, Monday through Friday with option for overtime
Travel
Travel to various job sites required.
