The Estimator interprets total opening requirements as set forth within contract documents (i.e., plan, specifications, addenda, and other related information) concerning an individual construction project. Uses computer technology and mathematical skills in the formation of the estimate.
Essential Functions
Works directly with Contractor including the hard bid processesReviews scope of work with General Contractor pre/post bid and hardware/HMF manufacturer combo packages determine most competitive positionPerforms labor cost interpretation based on scope of workReceives constructing plans, drawings and specifications and reviews for familiarization; checks for completeness; notes bid deadlines and any special requirementsOrganizes approach to project by deciding how to separate portions of major projects and to identify typical opening or hardware sets, etc.; notes project construction schedules, if applicableInterprets construction specifications; where necessary, discusses interpretations with team salesperson, customers or the architectReads building plans and identifies applicable portions with Cook & Boardman involvementSummarizes door opening and other applicable portions of plans by typeCompares actual and estimated materials on completion of each projectEnters applicable information in to Comsense system and prices job based on computer cost filesResponsible for complete door and hardware takeoffs and costing all parts and scope of workAll other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
2 or 4 year degree in Engineering or related area preferred, or 5+ years of job related experienceAt least 5 years of related experience in similar construction or building material industryAccurate mathematical skillsExperience working in ComsenseMust pass pre-employment background check and drug screen
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Blueprint/plan reading and specification interpretationProficient in Microsoft OfficeKnowledge of door, frame and hardware applications as they relate to UL, fire code, building code, ADA, life safety and other restrictions that relate to the general commercial construction industryExcellent oral communication skills and positive interpersonal skillsDetail oriented, deadline conscience, goal driven, and able to handle all types of scopes of projects
