Travel frequency and duration will vary depending on the role and project timeline. *This position is eligible for the annual performance bonus plan. Final determination of a successful candidates starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, education and experience. ABOUT THE ROLE The Manager, Project Safety II supports the Project Teams in developing and sustaining an Incident and Injury Free Culture (IIFC) and ensures compliance with federal, state, local and client safety regulations and requirements. This is a leadership role that will manage a team and lead the technical development and maintenance of a Project Safety Roadmap and Site Safety Plan. This position reports to the assigned Regional or Division Safety Manager.
- This position will provide EHS support to large, multi-year projects.
- Support Crew Foreman, General Foremen, Site and Area Superintendents in the execution of the Project Safety Road map and Site Safety Plan.
- Act as the safety lead for a large, complex project and lead a team of Safety Specialists and Safety Managers/PSMs.
- Collaborate with Safety leadership on the development, evaluations, and execution of Safety Pre-Task Planning and Standard Work Instructions.
- Perform daily observations of employee behaviors and site conditions utilizing the leading indicator system.
- Evaluate effectiveness of safety programs through routine safety program audits.
- Identify safety themes and trends to make data-based recommendations for continuous improvement projects. Identify, prioritize, lead, and implement continuous improvement projects.
- Assist with the development and approval of work permits (confined space, ground disturbance, fall protection, etc.).
- Provide coaching to employees on hazard identification and mitigation utilizing the Personal Risk Assessment process.
- Ensure Foremen, GF and Superintendents are evaluating SPTPs, SWIs and PRAs and providing appropriate coaching as needed
- Meet regularly with project leadership and support the development of project specific corrective action plans to address safety issues and concerns.
- Provide up-to-date Total Case Incident Reporting to project leadership and management.
- Provide coaching and mentoring for employees exhibiting unsafe behaviors and provide recognition for employees exhibiting safe behaviors.
- Facilitate safety training and testing for all employees (HazCom, Fall Protection, Lockout/Tag out, etc.).
- Provide case management of all injury/illness cases.
- Support Project Safety Managers in completion of incident investigations.
- Perform periodic evaluations of power tools and equipment (i.e. scissor lifts, forklifts, fall protection, laser levelers, etc.) to ensure equipment is being maintained in good working order, as applicable.
- Monitor, evaluate, and audit CEI/Subcontractor compliance with applicable rules and regulations, and project safety requirements.
- Support Project Leadership in the development and execution of weekly toolbox safety meetings.
- Ensure that meetings are taking place daily and provide input to crews through routine attendance and assessments on relevance of topics.
- Provide feedback to project leadership on meeting effectiveness.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the Flex & Stretch Program.
- Provide oversight, mentorship, and coaching to Safety Specialists and Safety Managers and Project Safety Managers as needed.
- Provide management oversight and professional development of Project Safety Managers and Specialists as needed.
- Develop SMART Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) to manage development and performance of direct reports.
- Understanding of industry consensus standards such as NFPA, ASTM, and ANSI
- Experience with union workforce desired
- Ability to work independently, strong communication skills with ability to influence behaviors
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Technology proficient and strong computer skills (ex.: Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Bi-lingual desired
- Standing, walking, sitting, climbing, typing, carrying, pushing, bending. Work is conducted in both indoor office, and outdoor constructions jobsite settings. Environmental conditions will vary.
- Ability to drive (must be physically able to drive with valid drivers license and no driving restrictions). The work area of a project site can be expansive so must be able to drive throughout the work site (via a buggy, car, truck, etc.).
- Occasional work at heights, in confined space, and lifting of up to 40 pounds.
