Lead Estimator / Head of Preconstruction track -- DOJO Construction (Utah)
Multi-sector commercial GC -- office, industrial/tilt, multifamily, hospitality, medical/dental, retail/restaurant. Potential to lead preconstruction.
ResponsibilitiesYou'd own preconstruction estimating end-to-end. Personally on roughly 3-5 estimates a month; in oversight capacity on another the bids of the other estimators . You'd sit between the architect/owner and our PM/super, translate drawings into numbers, and tell us when a project doesn't pencil before we waste anyone's time.
In year one, you're a working lead -- producing on your own bids and bringing our junior estimator up to a level where he owns more end-to-end. In year two+, you would continue on your projects while you're shaping the estimating function and hiring the next estimator(s) under you.
Qualifications- You can read an imperfect drawing set, identify the a few things that will drive cost variance, and present what assumptions you made and why.
- You've priced commercial work across at least three of: office TI, ground-up office, industrial/tilt-wall, multifamily/townhome wood-frame, hospitality, medical/dental TI, or retail/restaurant.
- You're fluent in Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft office (specifically Excel), and a bidding software. Our technology stack is Building Connected (bidding/estimating) + BuildR (preconstruction) + Procore (course of construction) + Jonas Premier (billing/compliance). Not required to have used all of our technology, but understanding of the process.
- You're calibrated. When you give a number, you can say what your confidence is and where the variance lives.
- You'd rather kill a bad bid early than win it and absorb the pain.
- You've worked with other estimators before -- as a mentor, peer, or both -- and you have views on what they should own, where they should contribute, and where a senior must always weigh in. A great addition would be if you can describe an estimator you developed and what changed under your watch.
