Building Maintenance Technician Job Description This role involves traveling to properties throughout the Rhode Island area to perform general building maintenance, repairs, and light construction tasks. You will help keep facilities safe, clean, and in good working order by handling a wide range of maintenance and janitorial duties during a consistent daytime schedule. Responsibilities Drive to various properties across the Rhode Island area to perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks. Complete general building maintenance, including basic repairs, cleaning, and upkeep of interior and exterior areas. Perform janitorial duties such as trash removal, sweeping, mopping, and maintaining overall cleanliness of facilities. Patch and repair roofs to address leaks, damage, and wear, ensuring structures remain weather-tight and safe. Install, repair, and finish sheet rock, including taping, sanding, and preparing surfaces for painting or finishing. Cut and remove concrete as needed for repairs, installations, or structural modifications. Install new flooring, including preparing surfaces, measuring, cutting, and fitting materials for a professional finish. Perform finish carpentry tasks such as installing trim, baseboards, and other finishing elements. Carry out rough carpentry work, including framing, installing metal studs, and other structural tasks as needed. Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for construction, repair, and maintenance activities. Measure and mark materials accurately using tape measures and other measuring tools to ensure precise cuts and installations. Troubleshoot mechanical and building issues, identify root causes, and implement appropriate repair solutions. Maintain building systems and structures in commercial environments, ensuring they meet safety and functional standards. Dispose of garbage and construction debris properly to keep work areas safe, organized, and compliant with regulations. Collaborate with team members and communicate any issues, delays, or safety concerns to ensure smooth operations. Follow safety procedures and best practices while working on ladders, roofs, and around construction equipment. Essential Skills Proven experience performing general building maintenance and repair tasks in a construction or maintenance environment. Hands-on experience with roof patching and basic roofing repairs. Proficiency in working with sheet rock, including installation, patching, and finishing. Ability to cut and remove concrete safely and accurately for repairs or installations. Experience installing new flooring, including measuring, cutting, and fitting materials. Skill in finish carpentry, including installing trim and other finishing elements. Experience in rough carpentry, such as framing and working with metal studs. Ability to perform janitorial duties, including cleaning, trash removal, and general facility upkeep. Competence in using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively in a construction or maintenance setting. Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately for precise measurements. Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills for identifying and resolving maintenance issues. Capability to perform general labor tasks, including lifting, carrying, and working on your feet for extended periods. Valid driver's license and ability to travel between properties within the Rhode Island area. Reliability to work a consistent 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday schedule. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in commercial building maintenance or construction environments. Familiarity with building maintenance best practices and safety standards. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively across multiple property locations. Strong attention to detail to ensure high-quality finishes on carpentry, flooring, and drywall work. Good communication skills to coordinate with team members and report maintenance needs or completed work. Comfort working at heights, on roofs, and around construction tools and equipment. You will regularly use hand tools, power tools, tape measures, and other construction equipment while performing tasks such as drywall work, carpentry, concrete cutting, flooring installation, and general cleaning. The position requires appropriate work attire suitable for a construction and maintenance setting, including sturdy footwear and other safety gear as needed. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of East Providence, RI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $25.00/hr.
