HDR is seeking a Senior Rail Construction Manger to join our Transportation Construction Services team in the Greater Toronto Area to work with Freight Rail clients. Reporting to the group lead, the position will be responsible for leading the delivery freight rail projects during construction overseeing HDRs scope of services comprising of Construction Project Management, Owners Representative, and Construction Observation. The role will be responsible for liaising with the client, and other stakeholders

Responsibilities\:
  • Promote and oversee implementation of health and safety regulations
  • Provide Construction Project Management and oversight during construction
  • Responsible for administering the construction phase of a project including budgeting and scheduling
  • Manage a multi-discipline design team to produce high quality deliverables, meet schedules and stay within project budgets
  • Providing oversight and be responsible for projects and for the work of multiple teams.
  • Be responsible for the successful delivery of Projects, including oversight of risks and issues.
  • Apply thorough and consistent methodology/approach to project deliverables and quality of submissions
  • Build a strong working relationship with the client and ensuring project team continues to deliver high quality of work.
  • Ensure all project deliverables are complete and compliant with the clients quality requirements and checklists.
  • Manage day to day activities of the project team and Subconsultants
  • Represent HDR at meetings, presentations and address issues raised by the client.
  • Respond to the client in a timely manner
  • Mentor project management and junior staff in a project.
  • Reporting on projects performance to HDRs senior management.
  • Manage project risks and mitigate those risks in a timely fashion to minimize impact to project performance.
  • Incorporate lessons learned into a project.
  • Engage in business development and proposal activities
  • Travel to projects across the province and eastern Canada for extended periods of time
  • Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering and, or related field
  • Proven analytical, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize required computer software such as MS Office (word, excel, powerpoint)
  • Experience working with MS Project or Primavera (P6) would be considered a strong asset
  • Sound knowledge of OPS specifications and standard drawings, TAC standards, Metrolinx and AREMA design standards.
  • Knowledge and skill in interpreting and applying transportation construction practices; procedures and quality assurance techniques
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Laws and Regulations (Environmental, Health and Safety, etc.) and their application in construction contracts
  • Ability to interpret construction critical path schedules
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and be able to independently write reports and correspondence
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and schedule work
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems
  • Be a proven leader and demonstrate leadership abilities
  • Valid Ontario drivers license with an acceptable driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Construction Science or closely related field or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in various aspects of construction planning and management, including but not limited to construction contracts; document, time, cost, and quality management; change management; and site safety. estimating, bidding, preparing and administering purchase orders and subcontracts, scheduling, cost control, etc.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Experience with construction management software such as Procore, Prolog, Primavera, Bluebeam, etc.
  • Must have strong people skills and the ability to interact with the Owner, Engineer, Contractor and other project stakeholders
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
