You will oversee field operations, safety, scheduling, and quality on a variety of ground-up and renovation projects, including K-12 educational facilities, commercial buildings, water and wastewater treatment facilities, healthcare projects, and industrial pre-engineered metal buildings. You will serve as the lead superintendent on-site, coordinating closely with project managers, subcontractors, and clients to deliver projects on time, within scope, and to a high standard of quality.

Responsibilities

  • Lead construction projects from early site preparation and pre-construction activities through final completion and closeout.
  • Collaborate with the project manager to create, update, and maintain the overall project schedule, including look-ahead schedules.
  • Oversee and enforce site safety practices and protocols for all personnel and subcontractors on the jobsite.
  • Create, maintain, and review all project documentation, including daily reports, logs, RFIs, submittals, and other construction records.
  • Provide day-to-day project oversight and quality control to ensure work meets contract documents, specifications, and company standards.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with trades, subcontractors, clients, owners, and other project stakeholders.
  • Manage project materials, including planning, ordering, tracking deliveries, and verifying quantities and quality.
  • Support and supervise self-perform work such as demolition, concrete, rough carpentry, and door installation as applicable.
  • Use Procore and other project management tools to track progress, documentation, and communication.
  • Assist with planning and coordination for ground-up, addition, and renovation projects, including work adjacent to active, occupied facilities.
  • Lead field coordination on a wide range of project types, including commercial buildings, K-12 schools, water and wastewater facilities, car washes, fitness facilities, and industrial pre-engineered metal buildings.
  • Maintain strong client-facing communication, representing the company professionally and addressing issues promptly.
  • Support national traveling projects as needed by temporarily covering sites when traveling superintendents are unavailable.

Essential Skills

  • At least 10 years of experience in commercial construction.
  • At least 10 years of experience as a superintendent on ground-up projects.
  • Experience serving as lead superintendent on at least 5 projects.
  • Proven experience managing projects valued above $10 million.
  • Strong background in commercial construction and general contracting environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and manage construction schedules in collaboration with project managers.
  • Proficiency with Procore for project documentation and communication.
  • Experience supervising subcontractors and coordinating multiple trades on active jobsites.
  • Hands-on experience with ground-up construction and commercial building projects.
  • Strong client-facing communication skills and experience working directly with clients and owners.
  • Ability to walk at least 2 miles per day on-site, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds as needed for jobsite activities.
  • Willingness to work in Lafayette, Indiana, for one year or longer and maintain a permanent residence in central Indiana.
  • Ability to manage safety, quality, and schedule simultaneously in a fast-paced field environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Work Environment

This is a field-based, on-site superintendent role with work primarily conducted at active construction sites. Typical projects include commercial buildings, K-12 educational facilities, healthcare projects, water and wastewater treatment plants, car washes, fitness facilities, and industrial pre-engineered metal buildings. The schedule generally ranges from 40 to 50 hours per week, with a standard on-site presence and extended hours such as 5 ten-hour days per week during busy seasons, depending on project demands, weather, and other site conditions. The company maintains a self-performing team for select scopes such as demolition, concrete, rough carpentry, and doors, so you will interact closely with both in-house crews and subcontractors. You will use technology such as Procore, laptops, and tablets to manage documentation and communication, and may also use scheduling tools like Microsoft Project. The culture emphasizes understanding of family needs and family time, with support to begin work immediately after hire. The role includes regular travel within central Indiana and the Lafayette area, with potential short-term nationwide travel to support other jobsites. A vehicle reimbursement program is available based on vehicle age, along with mileage reimbursement for travel beyond a set distance, phone reimbursement, and company-provided laptop or tablet. Lodging and related expenses are covered when overnight travel is required.
