Position Title: General Maintenance / General Laborer

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor / Facilities Manager

Job Summary:

The General Maintenance / General Laborer will be responsible for performing a variety of maintenance, repair, and labor tasks to ensure the proper upkeep of buildings, equipment, and facilities. The role requires hands-on work involving basic repairs, installation, cleaning, event setup and break-down and maintaining physical structures and systems for any College-owned and/or operated facility. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Applicants should have a reliable method of transportation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on building systems, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry.
• Assist with installation, assembly, and setup of equipment, events and furnishings.
• Clean and maintain common areas, including sweeping, mopping, and dusting.
• Handle basic repairs, such as fixing leaks, changing light bulbs, and repairing doors or windows.
• Assist with landscaping and grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, and clearing debris.
• Ensure the cleanliness and safety of work environments, reporting potential hazards.
• Carry out basic labor tasks as needed, such as painting, lifting and moving materials, tools, and equipment.
• Assist with the removal of waste, debris, and old equipment.
• Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition, notifying supervisors of damaged or missing items.
• Support higher-level maintenance staff as needed on more complex projects.
• Respond promptly to emergency maintenance requests.
• Adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines while performing tasks.
• Assist in setting up and breaking down for events or other special requests.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in general maintenance, construction, or a similar field is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
• Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Basic problem-solving skills and ability to follow instructions.
• Knowledge of safety protocols and a commitment to safe work practices.
• Reliable, punctual, and strong work ethic.

Working Conditions:

• Full-time position with flexible hours depending on workload and emergencies.
• May require work in varying weather conditions, including outdoors for groundskeeping tasks.
• Standing, walking, bending, and lifting for extended periods.
• Exposure to noise, dust, and other common maintenance-related conditions.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods.
• Comfortable working with various maintenance tools and equipment.
