Shop Technician Welder Fabricator

We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Workshop Technician to join our fast-paced R&D team. In this role, you won't just be following blueprintsyoull be a key partner in bringing innovative concepts to life. You will be responsible for the end-to-end fabrication of high-fidelity prototypes, ranging from precision machined components and sheet metal assemblies to the integration of complex fluid and electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities
Custom Fabrication: Execute full-cycle prototype builds using a variety of materials (aluminum, stainless steel, plastics, and alloys).

Precision Machining & Sheet Metal: Set up and operate manual mills, lathes, and sheet metal equipment (brakes, shears, rollers) to produce parts to tight tolerances.

Advanced Welding: Perform high-quality TIG welding on various gauges and materials, ensuring structural integrity and aesthetic finish for prototype units.

Systems Integration: Lead the installation and routing of critical subsystems, including:

Electrical: Wiring harnesses, sensors, and control panels.

Fluid Power: Layout and plumbing of hydraulic and coolant lines.

Control Systems: Mounting and connecting PLCs, actuators, and interface modules.

Iterative Design Support: Collaborate directly with engineers to troubleshoot design flaws during the build phase and suggest "design for manufacturability" (DFM) improvements.

Maintenance & Safety: Maintain shop equipment in peak condition and strictly adhere to all safety protocols and PPE requirements.

Required Qualifications & Skills
Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a professional machine shop, prototyping lab, or specialized fabrication environment.

Technical Mastery: Proven expertise in TIG welding and manual machining. Experience with CNC equipment is a significant plus.

Systems Literacy: Ability to read and interpret complex mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams).

Problem Solving: A "find a way" attitude when faced with ambiguous designs or one-off builds.

Tool Proficiency: Expert-level use of hand tools, power tools, and precision measurement instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges).

Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and remain on your feet for extended periods in a shop environment.
