Fleet Maintenance Supervisor Diesel, Auto & Equipment Job Summary Associated Truss & Lumber is seeking an experienced and hands-on Fleet Maintenance Supervisor to lead the maintenance and repair operations for company trucks, trailers, forklifts, and yard equipment. This position is responsible for supervising daily shop operations, coordinating preventive maintenance schedules, minimizing equipment downtime, and ensuring all fleet assets operate safely and efficiently.

The ideal candidate will have strong diesel and heavy equipment mechanical experience combined with proven leadership abilities in a fleet, manufacturing, transportation, lumber, or industrial environment. This role requires someone who can lead by example, prioritize repairs, support technicians, maintain accurate maintenance records, and promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and support maintenance technicians responsible for repairing and servicing:
  • Diesel and gas-powered trucks
  • Forklifts and material handling equipment
  • Flatbed, enclosed, and utility trailers
  • Yard and production support equipment
  • Assign and prioritize daily repair and preventive maintenance tasks to ensure minimal downtime
  • Oversee diagnostics and repairs involving engines, hydraulics, brakes, suspension, electrical systems, steering, and transmissions
  • Ensure all fleet equipment remains compliant with DOT regulations, company policies, and safety standards
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules, inspections, and repair timelines
  • Assist technicians with troubleshooting complex mechanical and electrical issues
  • Monitor parts inventory, shop supplies, and maintenance expenses
  • Review and approve work orders, repair documentation, inspection reports, and maintenance logs
  • Utilize basic computer systems and maintenance software to track repairs, inventory, downtime, and service history
  • Train, coach, and develop maintenance team members while promoting accountability and continuous improvement
  • Conduct safety meetings and ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and company safety procedures
  • Coordinate with operations and production leadership regarding equipment availability and repair priorities
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and assist with urgent repairs when needed
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop and yard environment
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 4+ years of experience in diesel, fleet, heavy equipment, trailer, or industrial maintenance required
  • Prior leadership, supervisory, lead mechanic, or shop foreman experience preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical diagnostics, trailers, and forklifts
  • Experience in manufacturing, trucking, lumber, construction, towing, or industrial fleet environments preferred
  • Ability to read schematics, service manuals, and repair documentation
  • Basic computer skills required, including experience with maintenance software, digital work orders, email, spreadsheets, and repair documentation
  • Experience maintaining DOT compliance records and inspection paperwork preferred
  • Valid drivers license required (CDL preferred but not required)
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in both indoor and outdoor environments

  • ASE Certification (Diesel or Medium/Heavy Truck)
  • Forklift repair certification or experience

  • Experience managing fleet maintenance schedules and repair priorities
  • Knowledge of inventory control and parts management
Work Environment
  • Combination of shop, yard, and manufacturing environments
  • Exposure to weather conditions, noise, grease, dust, and heavy equipment
  • May require occasional overtime, weekends, and on-call support
