The Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day management of construction activities on the jobsite. This includes coordinating all onsite work, supervising field personnel and subcontractors, enforcing safety standards, creating and maintaining schedules, and ensuring projects are completed with exceptional quality. Superintendents act as the onsite leader and primary field representative for the Project Manager and the company.
Responsibilities1. Field Leadership & Daily Operations
- Lead and supervise all onsite construction activities and field personnel.
- Direct subcontractors and crews to achieve timely, quality-driven work.
- Create and maintain the construction schedule and adjust sequencing to keep the project on track.
- Consistently update weekly schedule.
- Lead weekly Subcontractor Coordination Meetings.
- Understand project plans, specifications, and shop drawings to ensure accurate installation.
- Order materials, coordinate deliveries, and schedule inspections as needed.
2. Safety Management
- Promote and enforce strict jobsite safety practices and OSHA compliance.
- Conduct regular safety meetings, inspections, and hazard mitigation.
- Ensure all site personnel follow company safety policies and procedures.
3. Project Coordination & Communication
- Serve as the primary onsite contact for clients, architects, engineers, inspectors, and consultants.
- Communicate effectively and consistently with the Project Manager regarding progress, issues, and needs.
- Attend staff meetings, workshops, and required training sessions.
- Maintain positive working relationships with customers, contractors, suppliers, and team members.
4. Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare daily jobsite reports and communicate progress to the Project Manager.
- Oversee and track inspections, manpower, material deliveries, and equipment needs.
- Assist with cost tracking and budget awareness.
- Prepare and supervise the completion of punch lists.
5. Quality Control & Problem Solving
- Ensure workmanship meets Uniteds quality standards and conforms to plans and specifications.
- Identify and resolve field issues promptly to avoid rework or delays.
Maintain an organized jobsite, including field offices and logistics planning.
QualificationsExperience & Education
- Extensive experience in commercial and/or residential construction, including at least 5 years in a supervisory role.
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Real Estate Development, or related field preferred.
- OSHA 30
- First Aid/CPR Certified
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, codes, and safety regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and technical documents.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work effectively with diverse teams.
- Skilled in coordinating people, resources, and logistics.
- Knowledge of public safety practices and relevant regulations.
- Experienced in Construction Scheduling/Critical Path/Forecasting.
