Heavy Equipment Operator

Specialized Communication Services, LLC is seeking an experienced and safety-minded Heavy Equipment Operator to join our field crew in the St. George area. You will operate large machinery to excavate, trench, and install underground utilities and communication lines across southern Utah. This role requires precision machine operation, physical stamina for hot desert climates, and the ability to work full-time plus consistent overtime.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate heavy machinery including excavators, backhoes, bulldozers, large trenchers, and skid steers safely and productively.
• Read and interpret construction blueprints , grade stakes, and utility maps to ensure exact digging specifications.
• Conduct pre-shift safety inspections and routine preventative maintenance on heavy machinery.
• Secure and haul equipment on commercial trailers, driving company vehicles safely to local jobsites.
• Coordinate with ground crews and spotters to safely excavate around existing live utilities.
• Maintain a clean, organized job site and comply with all OSHA trenching and excavation regulations.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Minimum 2+ years of heavy equipment operation experience in utility construction or major excavation.
• Expertise in trenching safety , soil classification, and shoring requirements.
• Availability for full-time schedule plus regular overtime hours.
• Valid Drivers License with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) required.
• CDL (Commercial Driver's License) is highly preferred.
• Heat tolerance to work outdoors in Southern Utah summer temperatures.
• Physical strength to repeatedly lift 5075 lbs and assist ground crews when needed.
• Pass a drug screen and standard background check.
• Blue Stakes knowledge and utility locating experience are highly preferred.
