Vulcan Materials, the nations largest producer of construction aggregates and a major producer of aggregates-based construction materials, is seeking a Senior Structural Design Engineer to join our team in Birmingham, Alabama. As a Senior Structural Design Engineer, you will play a key role in driving capital projects that support our divisions engineering strategy. You will be responsible for end-to-end project management from concept and design through cost control, construction, and successful commissioning.

What Youll Do\:

  • Manage Design . Creating 3D models and 2D blueprints using CAD or BIM software (like AutoCAD, Inventor, Solidworks, etc.), detailing joints and connections, and determining the exact size of beams, columns, and foundations

  • Inspect. Provides field supervision/inspection services on construction projects. Performs post-project review to ensure key objectives, cost/performance improvements, and rate of return are achieved

  • Prepare Bid Packages. Prepares bid packages for construction and manages construction contracts

  • Provide Updates. Provide project updates on a regular frequency to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress

  • Represent the Company. Represents the company to industry associations, government officials, and public agencies

  • Additional Responsibilities. Other duties as assigned

  • Travel. Varies based on projects up to 20%

Skills You'll Need\:

  • Safety-Oriented. Sets a safety tone for all activities and upholds the highest standards for protecting people and the environment.

  • Education. BS degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering. Other Engineering degrees considered with substantial civil/mechanical/project experience.

  • License. PE license is preferred. Candidates pursuing a PE license will be strongly considered.

  • Experience. 7+ years of design experience in a heavy industrial environment.

  • Strong familiarity with project management and engineering software tools, methodologies, and best practices.

  • Experience using drafting software to produce detailed plans, models, and blueprints for Industrial Projects. (i.e. AutoCad, Inventor, SolidWorks, etc.)

  • Experience supporting projects from concept to completion. Knowledge of concrete and steel design, building codes, and construction practices is desired

  • Leadership Skills. Acts decisively and supports all aspects of the company to work together to accomplish the objectives, vision, mission, and values of Vulcan. Trusts and allows people to do their job. Develops innovative solutions to problems by trying non-obvious or non-traditional approaches.

  • Organizational Skills. Identifies and defines clear short-term goals and/or work outcomes that are required to implement strategic goals.

  • Computer Skills. Advanced computer skills, including spreadsheets and the Microsoft Office Suite, are required.

  • Interpersonal Communication. Must possess strong interpersonal skills and must be extremely resourceful. Communicates clearly and listens carefully in an open, candid, and consistent manner.

  • High Integrity. Acts with unyielding integrity and honesty in business transactions, promoting company policies and holding self and other employees accountable. Honors your commitments to yourself and others.

  • Ownership. Taking full ownership to address and correct issues within the assigned project.
