Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
Physical Plant Supervisor Specialist works under the supervision of the Deputy Warden of the Larned State Correctional Facility. Responsibilities are administrative in nature and include, but not limited to: management of staff and physical plant resources; maintenance; renovation; capital improvement; new construction; plant operations; and grounds keeping for Larned State Correctional Facility Central Unit and South Unit.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Administers and directs a program to maintain the buildings, grounds and equipment and to procure or generate all utilities and their distribution systems through the direction of staff and the management of physical plant resources. Staff include one (1) Physical Plant Supervisor Senior, seven (7) Facilities Maintenance Supervisors, one (1) Equipment Mechanic Senior, one (1) Electronics Technician Senior, and one (1) Grounds Maintenance Supervisor. Evaluates employees through inspections of work product, observation of results achieved, adherence to timeframe completion and cost-effective use of materials.
- Assigns, directs and oversees work crews assigned to repair, renovation and new construction projects by inspecting work in progress. Ensures the work is completed within specifications, time schedules, and budget limitations. Coordinates and inspects contractual work for contract compliance through conferences with the contractor and the architect, and direct observation of the work process and the results achieved.
- Maintains a preventive maintenance program, analyzing cost and work schedules, setting priorities based upon facility needs and the Deputy Warden's directive, operational needs and repairs. Plans and organizes maintenance schedules and programs for the institution by regularly reviewing work order requests, discussion with subordinates, and inspections of the institution. Specifies and requisitions parts and materials required for the maintenance and repair of the institution by reviewing purchase requisitions and inventories of supplies, to insure that required parts and materials are available to meet the requirements of the institution.
- Coordinates with KDOC and private sector architects and engineers for recommendations in the design and method of remodeling, renovation, and new construction projects. Prepares budget requests and researches, designs, and develops proposed capital improvement projects. Completes justifications and specifications, making cost estimates as requested or required for materials, supplies and manpower. Serves as agency's contact with bidders relating to special projects. Confers with other department heads as requested or required on projects in all areas and insures that the use of materials is appropriate and cost effective.
- Participates in the management of the facility through executive staff conferences and participation in agency events. Will perform other duties as assigned in order to accommodate the needs of the facility and accomplish the goals of the department. Serves as a member of the Administrative Resource Council.

Minimum Qualifications :
Six (6) years of experience in building trades or mechanical building trades. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
