Talascend is currently seeking a Safety Supervisor for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Calvert, Alabama . Overview The Safety Supervisor oversees and delivers assurance over process safety management programs and controls across the organization, leading audits and assessing safety frameworks, risk management systems, and operational controls to ensure effective design and operation. Responsibilities Lead and manage the planning, oversight, and delivery of risk-based process safety management audits across an assigned region in collaboration with senior leadership, defining audit scope, criteria, risk priorities, and resource allocation. Oversee continuous process safety risk assessment activities by evaluating hazard profiles, loss-of-containment events, process safety incidents, barrier performance indicators, and emerging regulatory or industry developments. Direct evaluation of process safety governance frameworks, management systems, and critical risk controls, including elements such as process hazard analysis, management of change, mechanical integrity, operating procedures, and contractor management. Champion data-driven assurance approaches by guiding the use of analytics and digital tools to assess process safety indicators, incident investigations, corrective actions, and barrier performance data. Review and approve audit findings and reports, ensuring issues are clearly articulated with root cause analysis, hazard risk implications, and recommendations. Engage with senior site leadership, process safety engineers, operations teams, and other functions to communicate assurance insights and drive remediation strategies. Oversee monitoring and validation of corrective action plans, ensuring effective remediation of process safety risks and escalating overdue or ineffective actions. Lead the continuous improvement of process safety assurance methodologies, tools, and guidance to strengthen program effectiveness. Lead, coach, and develop team members, providing technical guidance and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. Provide advanced process safety expertise and collaborate with internal and external specialists to enhance assurance practices and share industry best practices. Ensure a safe and healthy work environment, support quality commitments, foster teamwork, and maintain knowledge of relevant standards such as ISO 14001, IATF 16949, and ISO 17025. Qualifications University degree, Master's in Engineering or a related technical discipline 10+ years of health & safety roles experience, including at least five years participating in or leading process safety, ideally within steel, oil & gas, mining, or chemical industries Advanced knowledge of process safety management standards and industrial risk management Knowledge of ISO 45001 and process safety frameworks Proven leadership, coaching, delegation, and team development skills Experience in occupational health programs, exposure control, health risk assessments, and safety management systems Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills Strong analytical skills and proficiency in MS Office products Flexibility to travel as required Preferred Qualifications ISO 45001 Auditor certification Additional training or certification in occupational hygiene, industrial safety, or health risk management Knowledge of process safety management systems, strongly preferred Experience with ERP systems (mainly SAP), preferred Speaking additional languages outside of English is a plus Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and implement improvement initiatives Ability to make decisions using analytical and problem-solving skills Hands-on mindset with strong attention to detail Ability to build partnerships and seek win-win solutions to meet business objectives Trust-building skills with stakeholders and ability to translate technical information effectively We thank all applicants for their interest.
