Saw Operator (2nd Shift) Job Description This 2nd shift Saw Operator position focuses on operating and maintaining saw equipment to prepare steel materials for fabrication while supporting a variety of metal fabrication processes. You will work closely with an experienced fabrication team, gain hands-on exposure to welding, grinding, and assembly, and have the opportunity to grow into multiple fabrication roles within a close-knit shop environment. Responsibilities Operate and maintain saw equipment, including band saws and other miscellaneous cutting machines, to prepare steel materials for fabrication. Measure, mark, and cut steel materials to precise specifications using tape measures and other measuring tools. Assist in the setup and calibration of saw equipment to ensure accurate and efficient cutting operations. Inspect raw materials and finished products to verify accuracy, quality, and adherence to specifications. Follow established safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area. Collaborate with fabrication team members to meet production goals and deadlines. Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on saw equipment to keep machines in proper working order. Learn and assist with additional fabrication tasks such as welding, grinding, and assembly as needed. Use hand tools and machine shop equipment to support fabrication and assembly activities. Read and interpret engineering blueprints and schematics to understand cutting and fabrication requirements. Essential Skills Previous experience in saw operation, steel manufacturing, metal fabrication, or a related field. Proficiency in operating band saws and other saw equipment in a production or fabrication environment. Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately for measuring and marking steel materials. Familiarity with assembly work in a metal fabrication or machine shop setting. Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints and schematics. Capability to handle a physical workload, including standing for extended periods and handling steel materials. Basic machine operation skills in a machine shop or metal fabrication environment. Strong commitment to safety and adherence to shop safety protocols. Reliable work ethic, consistent attendance, and willingness to support team production goals. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a metal fabrication shop or machine shop environment. Hands-on experience with hand tools used in metal fabrication and assembly. Work Environment This role is based in a small fabrication shop that operates on 2nd shift, typically from 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. The facility is not temperature-controlled, so conditions will vary with the seasons and require comfort working in both warm and cool environments. You will work around steel materials, band saws, and other fabrication equipment, using hand tools and machine shop tools regularly. The atmosphere is collaborative and close-knit, with a focus on safety, teamwork, and hands-on learning in a practical, shop-floor setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hernando, MS. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $24.00/hr.
