Shop Helper | $20 HR Job Description The Shop Helper supports the production of industrial fans used across multiple industries, including power stations, mining, wind tunnels, industrial facilities, MVR systems, tunnels, and metro applications. This role involves preparing, cleaning, painting, and assembling parts, using a variety of tools and equipment, and helping to maintain a safe, efficient, and organized job shop environment. Responsibilities Assist in building industrial fans for a variety of applications, including power stations, mining, wind tunnels, industrial facilities, MVR systems, tunnels, and metro environments. Prep, clean, and paint parts prior to fan assembly to ensure quality and proper finish. Grind and cut parts to specification using appropriate tools and techniques. Perform quality checks on parts and assemblies to verify accuracy and workmanship. Complete smaller mechanical assemblies as needed once properly trained. Operate an overhead crane to safely move parts and position them in the correct location. Assist with unloading truck shipments and organizing incoming materials. Use a wide range of hand and power tools to assemble machinery and components. Read and interpret measurements using a tape measure to ensure precise fabrication and assembly. Support general production tasks, including basic repair, grinding, and general labor as required. Contribute to maintaining hydraulic and pneumatic systems as part of the assembly and repair process, as directed. Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment as needed to move parts and products. Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area, promptly addressing clutter and debris. Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while working with industrial equipment and tools. Collaborate with team members and work independently as a self-starter to keep production on schedule. Essential Skills Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a manufacturing setting. Ability to read and accurately use a tape measure. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, including experience working with hand and power tools in previous roles or as a hobby. Capability to lift over 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift. Experience with general assembly work in a production or job shop environment. Ability to perform grinding and cutting tasks safely and accurately. Basic blueprint reading skills to support fabrication and assembly work. Comfort working with hydraulics and pneumatics in an industrial setting. Ability to operate or learn to operate an overhead crane safely. Ability to operate or learn to operate a forklift and other material-handling equipment. Strong general labor skills and willingness to perform a variety of production tasks. Mechanical inclination and problem-solving mindset in a hands-on environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a small job shop or custom fabrication environment. Experience in construction or similar hands-on trades. Familiarity with industrial machinery assembly and repair. Ability to work independently as a self-starter with minimal supervision. The shop is very busy and can become cluttered with parts that need to be fabricated or assembled, requiring awareness and good housekeeping habits. You will regularly work with hand and power tools, overhead cranes, forklifts, and industrial machinery, as well as around hydraulic and pneumatic systems. The work involves handling refurbished industrial equipment and can be dirty and physically demanding, including lifting over 50 pounds throughout the shift. The atmosphere is laid back but expects you to be a self-starter who stays productive and safety-conscious in a fast-moving production setting.
