Weekend Shift Machine Operator Job Description The Weekend Shift Machine Operator runs advanced CNC-driven metal fabrication equipment, including press brakes and other sheet metal machinery, to produce high-quality parts to strict tolerances. This role sets up, programs, and maintains machines, troubleshoots complex issues, and ensures that all products meet rigorous quality and safety standards. The position also supports continuous improvement initiatives and provides guidance and training to less experienced operators on advanced machine operation and troubleshooting techniques. Responsibilities Operate various CNC-driven machines at an advanced level, such as press brakes, saws, drills, turret punches, lasers, and shears, in accordance with standard operating procedures. Set up, program, and calibrate machines for production runs, ensuring configurations meet all product specifications and tolerances. Troubleshoot and resolve complex machine issues, including mechanical, electrical, and software-related problems, to minimize downtime. Monitor machine performance during production and identify opportunities for process improvements, cost reductions, and efficiency gains. Perform final quality checks on parts and assemblies to verify they meet internal standards and customer specifications. Train and mentor less experienced machine operators on advanced machine operation, programming, and troubleshooting techniques. Conduct routine maintenance and inspections on machines to ensure all equipment remains in safe and reliable working condition. Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve product designs, optimize production workflows, and enhance equipment performance. Maintain accurate and detailed records of production activities, machine performance, maintenance actions, and corrective measures taken. Follow and enforce strict safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe and compliant working environment. Apply lean manufacturing principles and actively contribute continuous improvement ideas to increase efficiency and reduce waste. Work effectively during the weekend shift schedule and complete all assigned production tasks within the required timelines. Essential Skills High school diploma or equivalent. 5+ years of experience in machine operations, preferably working with press brakes, turret punches, lasers, and shears. Strong experience operating CNC-driven machines in a production environment. Expertise in machine programming, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance. Solid knowledge of machining techniques, including precision manufacturing and CNC operations. Proven ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD/CAM files. Demonstrated experience working with sheet metal that is cut, pressed, and punched to strict tolerances. Proficiency in general machine operation in a production setting. Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues. Strong leadership abilities with experience training and mentoring junior staff. Clear commitment to quality control, safety, and continuous improvement. Additional Skills & Qualifications Advanced technical certification or an associate degree in machine operation, engineering, or a related field is preferred. Experience with press brake setup and operation at an advanced level. Background in laser cutting, punch press operation, and other sheet metal fabrication processes. Familiarity with lean manufacturing practices and continuous improvement methodologies. Comfort working in a fast-paced, growth-oriented manufacturing environment. Work Environment This role is based in a modern, air-conditioned manufacturing facility that utilizes advanced CNC machinery and Industry 4.0 technologies for sheet metal fabrication. The primary schedule for this position is the weekend shift, Friday through Sunday from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a 10% shift differential for this schedule. Training will initially take place on first shift for several weeks to ensure a solid understanding of the machines and processes. The work involves standing and walking for extended periods, as well as stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing a portable ladder as required. You must be able to lift and move up to 35 pounds and have good manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination. Personal protective equipment is required and provided in accordance with safety policies.
