Mini Excavator Operator Job Description This role operates a mini excavator to dig trenches, set grades, and move dirt, gravel, and other construction materials on active job sites. You perform daily pre-shift safety inspections, check fluid levels, and grease equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. You collaborate closely with crew members and supervisors to complete projects safely, accurately, and on schedule. Responsibilities Operate a mini excavator to dig trenches according to project specifications and plans. Set and maintain accurate grades while excavating to support proper drainage and structural requirements. Move dirt, gravel, and other construction materials safely and efficiently around the job site. Conduct pre-shift safety checks on the mini excavator, including inspection of key components and systems. Check and maintain fluid levels, including fuel, oil, and hydraulic fluids, to ensure proper equipment performance. Grease and lubricate equipment as required to prevent wear and extend the life of machinery. Work closely with crew members and supervisors to coordinate tasks and maintain project schedules. Follow all safety procedures and site rules to protect yourself, your team, and equipment. Maintain a clean and organized work area around the equipment and work zone. Report any equipment issues, hazards, or delays promptly to supervisors. Essential Skills Minimum 3 years of experience operating mini excavators or similar heavy equipment. Proven experience as a heavy equipment operator in construction environments. Strong trenching skills, including digging to specified depths and widths with precision. Ability to set and maintain grades while operating a mini excavator. Working knowledge of construction site practices and safety requirements. Ability to perform pre-shift safety checks, fluid level checks, and basic equipment maintenance such as greasing. OSHA 10 certification. Ability to work effectively as part of a crew and communicate clearly with supervisors and coworkers. Comfort operating equipment in outdoor conditions for extended periods. Work Environment This position is 100% outdoors and requires comfort working in various weather conditions and environmental elements. You work Monday through Friday from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., aligning with typical construction site hours. The role involves operating a mini excavator and other heavy equipment on active construction sites, with a strong emphasis on safety, situational awareness, and adherence to site rules. You can expect a physically active environment that may involve uneven terrain, noise from machinery, and coordination with other trades and crew members Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Parrish, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
