Electrical Estimator Location: Baltimore Department: Preconstruction / Estimating Salary Range: $100k-175k This role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for complex electrical construction projects across healthcare, life sciences, mission-critical, and large-scale commercial sectors. The position supports preconstruction efforts on both ground-up and renovation work, with a strong focus on high-reliability electrical systems, infrastructure upgrades, and technically demanding environments. Work includes detailed estimating for projects such as hospitals, laboratories, data centers, corporate facilities, institutional campuses, and industrial plants. Assignments often involve systems requiring redundancy, backup generation, strict compliance standards, and minimal downtime. Responsibilities include analyzing construction drawings, specifications, and BIM models to develop complete electrical estimates. Perform detailed quantity takeoffs covering power distribution, lighting, low voltage, controls, and specialty systems. Develop comprehensive pricing for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors, including major systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS, fire alarm, and building automation. Coordinate with engineering, project management, and field operations teams to ensure alignment on scope, constructability, and execution approach. Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing. Identify risk factors, cost drivers, and opportunities for value engineering. Prepare bid proposals, scope clarifications, and qualifications. Support design-build and design-assist pursuits, including conceptual and budget estimating. Participate in pre-bid meetings, walkthroughs, and client discussions. Maintain estimating databases, historical cost information, and productivity benchmarks. Project exposure includes hospital construction and renovations with critical care systems, surgical suites, imaging environments, and emergency power infrastructure. Life sciences and pharmaceutical facilities including laboratories, clean rooms, and GMP-regulated spaces with complex process integration. Commercial real estate projects such as office towers, headquarters, and tenant fit-outs involving core and shell systems, lighting controls, and smart building technologies. Mission-critical facilities including data centers with high-density power, redundant systems, UPS, and backup generation requiring near-zero downtime. Additional work includes higher education and institutional facilities such as campuses, research centers, and phased infrastructure upgrades integrated into existing systems. Industrial and manufacturing environments involving heavy power distribution, controls, automation, and process equipment. Transportation and infrastructure projects such as airports and transit systems requiring large-scale lighting, signaling, and power distribution. Renewable and energy-related work including solar, battery storage, microgrids, and energy efficiency retrofits. Requirements include 5 or more years of electrical estimating experience in commercial or industrial construction. Strong understanding of electrical systems including medium voltage distribution, emergency power, controls, and low voltage systems. Ability to interpret drawings and specifications and perform accurate takeoffs. Experience with estimating software such as Accubid, ConEst, Trimble, or Bluebeam. Familiarity with NEC requirements and industry standards. Preferred experience includes healthcare environments, data centers, life sciences facilities, or other mission-critical projects. Experience with design-build delivery and conceptual estimating is strongly valued. Exposure to BIM-based estimating and coordination is beneficial. Key competencies include strong attention to detail, ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously, and an understanding of complex phasing and uptime constraints in active facilities. Effective communication and collaboration skills are essential, along with the ability to evaluate cost, risk, and constructability in technically complex projects.
