Job Title: Permitting Technician / Drafter
Job Description
This role focuses on supporting power distribution design and engineering projects by producing high-quality 2D AutoCAD drawings and complete permitting packages for overhead and underground power distribution systems. The Permitting Technician / Drafter collaborates closely with design and permitting teams to research municipal requirements, prepare permit-ready drawings, and ensure compliance with standards for major power utility projects across Florida and the broader Southeastern United States.
Responsibilities
- Create and modify detailed 2D AutoCAD drawings to support permitting efforts, including aerial maps and cross sections for overhead and underground power distribution systems.
- Develop and standardize CAD templates to improve consistency, accuracy, and efficiency across multiple projects and clients.
- Translate field data, redlines, and markups into accurate, permit-ready drawings that meet client and regulatory requirements.
- Produce client deliverables such as permit research packages and complete permit packages using AutoCAD and other designated software tools.
- Perform quality assurance activities, including proofing data collection, reviewing research reports, and verifying drawing accuracy before submittal.
- Support the preparation of permit submittals, ensuring all drawings and documents align with municipal, Department of Transportation (DOT), and utility/client standards.
- Collaborate closely with project teams to incorporate design updates and revisions into drawings and permitting documents in a timely manner.
- Assist in training and guiding permit coordinators on AutoCAD usage, drawing standards, and best practices for permitting documentation.
- Maintain organized project files, drawing sets, and documentation within client systems to ensure traceability and easy access to project information.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment with peers, project managers, and field personnel to meet project schedules and deliverables.
- Communicate effectively with clients and other industry professionals to clarify requirements and resolve issues related to drawings and permits.
Essential Skills
- Strong proficiency in 2D AutoCAD, including creating and modifying drawings for utilities and infrastructure projects.
- Ability to interpret and apply redlines, markups, and field data to produce final, permit-ready drawings.
- Experience working with underground utility projects or related infrastructure, such as power distribution, telecommunications, transportation/roadway, or land development.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment with peers, project managers, and field personnel.
- Strong documentation and communication skills for collaborating with clients and industry professionals.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
- Strong analytical, observational, and active listening skills to accurately translate design intent and field information into drawings.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Industry experience in one or more of the following areas: power distribution, telecommunications, transportation/roadway, land development, or underground utility projects.
- Experience with roadway or Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) permitting is a plus.
- Familiarity with additional software tools such as BOUD, MyWorld, SEDS, and CPA is a plus.
- Experience in civil, transportation, telecom, or related engineering environments is beneficial.
- Interest in supporting long-term power distribution programs that enhance grid reliability across the Southeastern United States.
Work Environment
Work is performed on-site at a modern office in the Riverview/Tampa area as part of a 170-person power group based between Maitland and Tampa. The Tampa office is a new 19,000-square-foot space designed to support collaboration and engagement, featuring amenities such as a foosball table and shuffleboard. The team culture is positive and highly engaged, with supportive leadership and a strong focus on long-term program work for major power utilities.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tampa, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
