Job Title: Designer and Drafter

Job Description

This role focuses on preparing high-quality electrical drawings and construction documents using Revit (BIM) while supporting electrical engineers in the design and layout of building electrical systems. The designer and drafter contributes to the development and coordination of power distribution, lighting, emergency power, and low-voltage systems, ensuring that all documents meet project standards and support successful delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed electrical drawings and construction documents using Revit (BIM) in accordance with project standards and requirements.
  • Assist electrical engineers with the design and layout of power distribution systems, including switchboards and switchgear.
  • Support the design and layout of interior and exterior lighting systems and lighting controls.
  • Contribute to the design and layout of emergency and standby power systems to support critical building operations.
  • Assist with the design and layout of fire alarm and low-voltage systems, including access control and related building systems.
  • Develop plans, schedules, details, and diagrams from engineering concepts, sketches, and redlines provided by engineers.
  • Coordinate electrical designs with mechanical, plumbing, architectural, and structural disciplines to ensure fully integrated building systems.
  • Revise and update drawings throughout all phases of design and construction document production, maintaining accuracy and consistency.
  • Support QA/QC standards by reviewing drawings for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with firm and project requirements.
  • Ensure that drawing organization, file management, and documentation align with project and firm standards.
  • Participate in coordination and design review meetings as needed to resolve design issues and improve constructability.
  • Manage multiple tasks and project assignments simultaneously while meeting established deadlines and milestones.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience in electrical drafting and design for buildings.
  • Proficiency in Revit for creating and modifying electrical drawings and construction documents (required).
  • Experience using AutoCAD for drafting and design (preferred but not required).
  • Hands-on experience with electrical system design, including power distribution, switchboards, and switchgear.
  • Experience with fire alarm systems, access control, and other low-voltage building systems.
  • Understanding of electrical building systems and construction documents, including plans, schedules, and details.
  • Ability to interpret and develop designs from engineering concepts and redlines.
  • Strong attention to detail, with a focus on drawing organization, clarity, and accuracy.
  • Ability to coordinate electrical designs with other building disciplines such as mechanical, plumbing, architectural, and structural.
  • Capability to perform or support short-circuit related tasks as part of electrical system design.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills to participate in coordination and design review meetings.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field, or equivalent field experience.
  • 2+ years of design and drafting experience specifically related to building electrical systems.
  • Experience in mechanical design or familiarity with mechanical systems is beneficial for interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting QA/QC processes for design and construction documents.
  • Comfort working in a technology-driven environment that leverages advanced design tools and BIM processes.
  • Motivation to work in a forward-thinking setting with opportunities to collaborate across disciplines.
  • Ability to adapt to changing project priorities while maintaining high-quality work output.

Work Environment

The role follows a standard 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule in an office-based setting with a cubicle layout, offering some flexibility as part of a hybrid work arrangement. Daily work centers around Revit and, when needed, AutoCAD and other digital tools for BIM and drafting. The environment supports collaboration with engineers and other design professionals, and the organization offers strong benefits to support employee well-being. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $80000.00/yr.
