Job Description

This CAD Technician role focuses on producing accurate, high-quality engineering drawings for civil and related projects using AutoCAD and Civil 3D. You will translate sketches, design information, and verbal instructions into detailed computer-generated drawings, support multiple project engineers, and contribute to a growing engineering firm with a strong pipeline of large projects. Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed engineering drawings from sketches, general engineering and design information, verbal instructions, and notes using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Produce computer-generated engineering drawings that follow established company standards, procedures, and formatting requirements.
  • Create civil-type drawings, including water, wastewater, sewer, and related civil infrastructure systems, with a focus on accuracy and clarity.
  • Convert verbal and written technical information into precise computer-generated drawings suitable for engineering review and construction use.
  • Review all drawings for completeness and accuracy before submission to engineers, ensuring that dimensions, annotations, and details are correct.
  • Perform minor mathematical calculations needed to prepare and verify engineering drawings.
  • Operate a plotter and other related equipment to transfer developed drawings to appropriate media for review, distribution, or construction.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and engineering details to support drafting and design tasks.
  • Collaborate closely with multiple project engineers, assisting on a wide range of projects and adapting to varying project requirements.
  • Work independently and efficiently to maintain schedules, manage deadlines, and handle multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Update and revise drawings based on engineer feedback, design changes, and project requirements.
  • Use GIS software to support drafting and design tasks, including incorporating spatial data into drawings when needed.
  • Communicate effectively with engineers, peers, and other team members to clarify requirements, resolve issues, and coordinate project work.
  • Support both civil and mechanical process drafting needs as required by project scope.
  • Learn new tools, standards, and processes quickly to remain effective on evolving projects and technologies.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a CAD Technician or CAD drafter, with a civil discipline strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience using AutoCAD for engineering and construction drawings.
  • Experience with 3D CAD drafting, with civil 3D CAD drafting highly preferred; mechanical process drafting experience is also valuable.
  • Ability to prepare civil-type drawings, including water, wastewater, sewer, and related civil systems.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings, engineering details, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of engineering drawings and principles, including basic drafting standards and conventions.
  • Ability to perform minor mathematical calculations required for drafting and design work.
  • Ability to convert verbal and written technical information into accurate computer-generated drawings.
  • Ability to operate a plotter and related equipment to produce final drawing outputs.
  • Strong proficiency with AutoCAD; AutoCAD Civil 3D experience is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of GIS software, with proficiency strongly preferred for integrating spatial data into drawings.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel and Word, for documentation and coordination.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet project deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to collaborate effectively with engineers and team members.
  • Ability to adapt to a contract-to-hire arrangement and integrate into a permanent role upon successful performance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or technical school training in drafting, CAD, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D for civil infrastructure projects such as water, wastewater, and sewer systems.
  • Experience with civil CAD workflows, including site, utility, and infrastructure layouts.
  • Background in mechanical process drafting in addition to civil drafting is beneficial.
  • Experience working on water and wastewater treatment projects or similar civil infrastructure is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Revit and other design tools can be advantageous for broader project support.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and adapt to new software, standards, and project requirements.
  • Comfort working on a variety of project types and supporting multiple project engineers simultaneously.
  • Interest in contributing to a growing engineering firm with a strong pipeline of large and complex projects.
Work Environment

This role is based in an office environment within a small engineering firm of approximately 25 employees. The company is growing and manages a large portfolio of significant civil and infrastructure projects, offering exposure to diverse and challenging work. You will use tools such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS software, and Microsoft Office on a daily basis, with access to plotting and printing equipment for producing final drawings. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
