Position Summary
The Journey Level Finish Carpenter is responsible for performing skilled carpentry work, including constructing, installing, and repairing structures and built assemblies made of wood and other materials. This role requires a strong understanding of building techniques, an ability to read plan sets, specifications and technical shop drawings, and adherence to safety and quality standards. A skilled finish carpenter specializing in high-end residential construction must possess a combination of qualifications, skills, and knowledge that goes beyond basic carpentry. The demands of luxury homes require impeccable craftsmanship, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of both traditional techniques and modern innovations.
A Finish-level Carpenter must have 8,000 or more hours of field experience in general/finish carpentry, equivalent to approximately four years of full-time work in the trade and must have a minimum of 2 years of luxury finish carpentry experience and must provide a portfolio of their best work.
Key Responsibilities
Read and interpret plan sets, technical and/shop drawings, and project specifications to execute carpentry tasks accurately.
Ability to build detailed woodwork on site and/or in a shop environment such as but not limited to custom trim, moldings, cabinetry, beam wraps, built-in furniture, doors and windows with exceptional precision.
Installation of finish components such as but not limited to cabinetry, doors and windows, stairs and railings, wraps and cladding.
Maintains high standards expected in luxury residential projects.
Expert knowledge of materials and is able to appropriately select high quality materials suitable for the projects aesthetic and functional requirements.
Guide and mentor apprentices, providing on-the-job training and supervision as needed.
Communicate effectively with the team and report any issues or material needs to the project manager.
Collaborating with other tradespeople, supervisors, and apprentices to ensure project goals are met.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Utilize Job Tread for project specific information, time tracking and daily logs
Be on time every day and show up prepared
Ensure all tradespeople and stakeholders on project site are safe and utilizing appropriate PPE
Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications
Work History: Is able to provide proof of minimum 4 years or 8,000 hours of experience as a luxury residential finish carpenter. Portfolio is a must.
Carpentry Techniques: Understanding various carpentry methods, including building and installing cabinetry, trim work, veneer, wood finishing and wood repair.
Plan Sets & Technical Drawings: Ability to read, interpret, and implement architectural and engineering plans, and specifications accurately.
Building Codes & Regulations: Familiarity with local building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards to ensure compliance on all projects.
Building Materials: Knowledge of wood, metal, drywall, and other materials, including their properties, uses, and limitations.
Mathematics & Measurements: Proficiency in basic math, including measuring, calculating angles, and determining quantities of materials.
Safety Protocols: Awareness of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and safe handling of tools and materials.
Precision & Accuracy: Ability to perform detailed and precise work, measuring and cutting accurately to ensure tight joints and seamless finishes.
Problem-Solving: Capable of identifying and resolving issues during construction, such as fitting challenges or unexpected structural conditions.
Hand-Eye Coordination: Strong coordination to use tools effectively and safely, especially when cutting or assembling materials.
Physical Strength & Stamina: Must be able to lift heavy materials (up to 75 lbs), stand for long periods, and perform physically demanding tasks.
Teamwork & Communication: Collaborating with other tradespeople, supervisors, and apprentices to ensure project goals are met.
Adaptability: Ability to work in various weather conditions and adjust to different job sites or changes in project requirements.
Mentorship: Ability to guide and train apprentices, sharing knowledge and skills to help them develop.

Relationships
The Journey Level Finish Carpenter reports to the project-specific Site Lead.
Apprentice carpenters report to Journey Level General Carpenter, Journey Level Finish Carpenter and the Site Lead, with the Site Lead being the projects overarching supervisor.
Performance Reviews
A review will be held at 90 days after the first date of hire and yearly thereafter.
Advancement
There is always room for advancement at TBB. Vertically, the next step of advancement from Journey Level Finish Carpenter to Site Lead, Project Manager, Design Assistance.
Schedule and Pay
Our service area includes Whatcom and Skagit Counties. While we make every effort to assign crews to construction projects located near their homes, employees must be prepared to travel to work anywhere within our service area.
Full-time, hourly, 40 hrs/wk. Overtime pay occasionally available.
Field employees work Monday Friday 8:00am 4:30pm
Pay range, health insurance, paid time off (PTO), sick pay, and other benefits are listed in the Benefits Package.
