Job Description

The Carpenter Foreman leads self-perform construction activities across a variety of commercial projects, ensuring high-quality workmanship, safe practices, and efficient use of labor, materials, and equipment. This role combines hands-on carpentry and general construction tasks with on-site leadership, coordination, and real-time tracking of budgets and schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and oversee selective demolition activities on assigned projects while maintaining a clean and safe work area.

  • Carry out progress clean-up throughout the project and assist with final cleaning to prepare spaces for turnover.

  • Execute rough carpentry tasks, including rough framing and wall layout, ensuring work aligns with project plans and specifications.

  • Perform finish carpentry, including installation of trim, casework, and detailed finishes to a high standard of quality.

  • Install commercial doors and hardware according to project requirements and manufacturer specifications.

  • Complete drywall patching, finishing, and painting to blend seamlessly with existing surfaces.

  • Perform miscellaneous flooring work and vinyl base patching as required by the project scope.

  • Install building specialties and accessories in accordance with plans and shop drawings.

  • Install suspended ceiling grid and acoustical ceiling tile (ACT) systems accurately and efficiently.

  • Quantify, order, and track materials required for project-specific duties, ensuring timely availability of supplies.

  • Return unused materials when possible or store them appropriately for future use on other projects.

  • Quantify, order, and track company-owned and rental equipment needed for project-specific tasks.

  • Coordinate the timely return of equipment to off-site locations to avoid storage of unused equipment on-site.

  • Review and understand the contract scope of work for each assigned project and identify any changes in real time.

  • Report change orders promptly to the assigned Project Manager to support accurate project documentation and billing.

  • Review self-perform budgets with the Project Manager and/or Superintendent and track self-perform labor against the budget in real time.

  • Monitor and understand the project schedule for each assigned project and align crew activities to meet milestones.

  • Assist with procurement of project-specific building permits when required.

  • Lead on-site self-perform crews and coordinate with subcontracted vendors to maintain productivity and quality.

Essential Skills

  • 3 to 5 years of carpentry experience on light-commercial and commercial construction projects.

  • Strong construction and carpentry skills, including rough framing, wall layout, and finish carpentry.

  • Experience with concrete-related tasks as part of general construction activities.

  • Proficiency in drywall patching, finishing, and painting.

  • Ability to install commercial doors and hardware accurately.

  • Experience with suspended ceiling grid and acoustical ceiling tile (ACT) installation.

  • Proficiency in reading and understanding project plans, specifications, and shop drawings.

  • Base understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection (MEPFP) systems.

  • OSHA 10 safety training (OSHA 30 preferred).

  • Safety-first mindset and consistent adherence to jobsite safety practices.

  • Strong organizational skills to manage materials, equipment, and labor effectively.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with project teams and vendors.

  • Proficient problem-solving skills to address field issues and maintain project progress.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead on-site self-perform crews and coordinate subcontracted vendors.

  • Ability to use hand tools and follow blueprints to complete construction tasks accurately.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in diverse sectors such as convenience stores, grocery, health care, manufacturing, multi-family, commercial office spaces, restaurants, retail, and senior housing.

  • Exposure to commercial, multi-family, hotel, office, agricultural, and retail work sites.

  • Comfort working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

  • Preference for candidates with OSHA 30 safety training.

  • Familiarity with specialties installation and miscellaneous flooring and vinyl base patching.

  • Capability to assist with building permit procurement and related documentation.

Work Environment

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Reedsburg, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $40.00/hr.
