Job Title: Senior Superintendent - Mechanical Subcontractor (Industrial Construction)

Job Description

This Senior Superintendent role oversees field operations for industrial construction projects, with a focus on mechanical scopes such as piping, HVAC, plumbing, and process systems. The position manages day-to-day site activities to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in full alignment with project specifications, schedules, and budgets. The Senior Superintendent serves as a key leader in the field, coordinating with multiple stakeholders and ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage field crews and mechanical subcontractors performing piping, HVAC, plumbing, and process system work on industrial construction projects.
  • Coordinate daily activities with general contractors, other trades, and project stakeholders to maintain a smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Monitor project progress closely, track productivity, and adjust schedules, manpower, and resources as needed to meet project milestones and deadlines.
  • Enforce company safety policies and OSHA regulations across all field operations to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and site inspections to identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal codes, standards, and regulatory requirements related to mechanical construction.
  • Review mechanical drawings, plans, and specifications to confirm that installations meet design intent and project requirements.
  • Perform ongoing inspections and quality checks throughout the project lifecycle to verify workmanship and adherence to standards.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve field issues, conflicts, and discrepancies promptly to minimize delays and rework.
  • Develop, update, and maintain detailed project schedules for mechanical scopes, aligning activities with overall project timelines.
  • Coordinate material deliveries, equipment needs, and tools to ensure crews have the resources required to perform work efficiently.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with project managers, engineers, and clients to provide updates, address concerns, and support decision-making.
  • Supervise and mentor foremen and field personnel, providing guidance, direction, and support in daily operations.
  • Evaluate team performance, provide constructive feedback, and support professional development and training initiatives.
  • Promote and foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, safety, and continuous improvement within the field organization.

Essential Skills

  • At least 10 years of experience in mechanical construction, including a minimum of 5 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience managing industrial projects such as manufacturing plants, refineries, or power generation facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including piping, HVAC, plumbing, and related process systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical documents accurately.
  • Proficiency in construction management software and scheduling tools used to plan and track field activities.
  • Solid understanding of construction safety practices and OSHA regulations applicable to industrial job sites.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to direct, motivate, and support field teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills for coordinating with project managers, engineers, clients, and other trades.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines in the field.
  • Industrial construction experience, particularly in environments such as plants, refineries, and power facilities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • OSHA 30 certification preferred, demonstrating advanced safety training and awareness.
  • Experience using construction management and scheduling software to plan, monitor, and report on project progress.
  • Background in construction management or related disciplines supporting field leadership responsibilities.
  • Ability to mentor and develop foremen and field personnel, encouraging continuous learning and improvement.
  • Track record of fostering a collaborative, team-oriented culture on industrial construction sites.

Work Environment

This position is primarily field-based at industrial job sites, where the Senior Superintendent spends most of the time overseeing on-site mechanical construction activities. The role involves working in active construction environments with exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, and typical industrial site hazards. Travel may be required depending on project location and duration. The workday centers around coordinating field operations, interacting with multiple trades and stakeholders, and using construction management and scheduling tools to manage progress and resources in real time.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
