GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Department of Administration & Information is seeking a skilled Journeyman Electrician to join our team. This position performs journey-level electrical work in state-owned and leased facilities throughout the assigned area.
The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and equipment to ensure their safe, reliable, and efficient operation. Through preventative maintenance and timely repairs, this position helps maintain functional, secure, and comfortable environments for state employees, visitors, and the public while supporting the continuity of government operations. The ideal candidate will take pride in delivering high-quality workmanship, adhering to safety standards, and contributing to the effective management of state facilities.

- Perform preventive and emergency maintenance on electrical equipment, generators, UPS, HVAC, fire alarms, security systems, and controllers.
- Program and troubleshoot control systems to resolve issues or adjust operating programs.
- Repair or replace faulty electrical equipment (motors, drives, starters, breakers, panels, fuses, disconnects).
- Collaborate with technicians to test and repair fire suppression systems and HVAC/R equipment.
- Repair or replace security system hardware (card readers, door strikes, cameras, sensors).
- Replace bulbs, ballasts, switches, receptacles, and specialized electrical components.
- Review and repair electrical designs, installations, and circuits (interior/exterior).
- Repair power distribution, transformers, generators, and other electrical components.
- Monitor and adjust electrical systems to balance loads.
- Follow National Electrical Code (NEC) and International Building Code (IBC) standards.
- Access and update work orders on a tablet daily.
- Plan, estimate, and commission new electrical systems and renovations, including balancing three-phase loads.
- Read electrical blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Analyze test data and perform calculations to diagnose and correct issues.
- Use electrical test instruments to assess power requirements and availability.
PREFERENCES:
Preference will be given to those applicants with a Journeyman level licensing and must be able to show the licensing in the State of Wyoming.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of basic electrical, refrigeration, heating, air conditioning, and welding theory.
- Knowledge of the application of electrical and other test equipment.
- Knowledge of the electrical trade's tools, materials, methods, and practices.
- Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Knowledge of state and federal electrical codes.
- Knowledge of safety work standards, electrical theory, thermal imaging and vibration analysis theory, electrical construction and maintenance practices, electrical materials and products, fire alarm systems, motor controls, emergency power systems, and power distribution systems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: As required by the licensing board
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Journeyman's Electrician License
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Working in and out of doors presents many different working conditions (snow, rain, wind, dust, and dirt).
