The Opportunity
A commercial HVAC general technician in Arizona diagnoses, repairs, and maintains complex cooling, heating, and refrigeration systems. The role typically pays \(\$28.00\) to \(\$48.00\) per hour (averaging around \(\$97,500\) annually), and requires EPA Certification along with 37+ years of experience.
Job SummaryThe Commercial HVAC General Technician is responsible for servicing heavy commercial HVAC equipment (e.g., RTUs, split systems, chillers, and WSHPs) across the Greater Phoenix Valley and surrounding areas. The technician works independently to diagnose equipment failures, perform preventative maintenance, and execute mechanical repairs.Core
Responsibilities: Troubleshooting & Repair: Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults in commercial HVAC systems, including compressors, fan motors, VFDs, and control boards.Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance (coil cleaning, filter changes, and refrigerant level checks) to ensure optimal energy efficiency and prevent system downtime.System Installation: Assist with the installation, retrofit, and replacement of commercial RTUs, cooling towers, and split systems.
Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate digital logs of work performed, parts used, and refrigerant usage in alignment with safety and environmental regulations.Customer Communication: Provide clear explanations of system issues and proposed solutions to building managers, property owners, and dispatch teams.
Qualifications & Requirements: Experience: 3 to 7+ years of dedicated commercial HVAC field service experience.Certifications: EPA Universal Certification (Required); Trade school diploma or state-recognized apprenticeship completion preferred.
Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude, brazing/soldering proficiency, and the ability to read blueprints and engineering specifications.Licensing: Valid Arizona Drivers License with a clean driving record.
Physical Demands: Must be capable of lifting up to \(50\)\(100\) lbs and working in extreme Arizona temperatures, confined spaces, and at elevated heights.
Typical Compensation & BenefitsWage: \(\$28.00 - \$48.00\)/hour DOE (Depending on Experience)
