Hi-Special Heavy Motor Equipment Operator (HI-SHMEO) - Sewer Division-Department of public Works

Duties: Under the supervision of the classified or working foreman, perform skilled operator duties in support of departmental projects, involving considerable physical activity and use of specialized heavy equipment.

Drive and/or operate specialized vehicles and equipment (frequently involving multiple complex hydraulic controls), such as backhoes, front-end loaders, sidewalk sweeper, vacuum truck, and comparable heavy equipment. Coordinate equipment operations with activities of assigned work crews and with local utility companies regarding projects involving digging near underground or overhead lines, cables, etc.

Check vehicle or equipment for proper operation before commencing assigned work project; report equipment malfunctions to supervisor when more substantial maintenance efforts are required. Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment; report equipment malfunctions to supervisor when more substantial maintenance efforts are required. Perform all duties in conformance with established schedules and applicable safety rules and regulations.

May operate more basic level heavy equipment or perform manual labor as required in support of project assignments. Operation of special heavy equipment may also involve hoisting, though not as a regularly. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Duties required knowledge of equipment operation equivalent to completion of higth school. Work requires two (2) to three (3) years of related experience plus proper license for the type of equiment operated. Job requires a Class A Commercial Drivers' License (CDL) with tanker's endorsement, and at least two (2) hydraulics licenses (4E and 2B at a minimum, although a Class 5 license may be used to substitute he 2B).
