Job Title: Project Manager Hardware and Electrical Engineering

Job Description

This role leads multiple concurrent hardware-focused engineering projects from concept through completion, overseeing project health while remaining hands-on with testing. The Project Manager coordinates development of electronic components such as gauges, clusters, displays, sensors, and controllers, and supports supply chain activities including sourcing components and migrating manufacturing suppliers. The position works closely with hardware, electrical, software, and mechanical engineering teams to deliver robust electronics solutions on time and within scope.

Responsibilities

  • Manage several hardware and electrical engineering projects simultaneously, including products such as gauges, clusters, displays, sensors, controllers, and related electronic modules.
  • Own overall project health by ensuring projects remain on track, meet milestones, and adhere to deadlines and agreed timelines.
  • Plan, maintain, and track project schedules using Gantt charts and other project management tools to monitor progress and dependencies.
  • Provide clear, regular updates to project stakeholders, including status reports on timing, risks, issues, and mitigation plans.
  • Coordinate cross-functional inputs from Hardware, Electrical, Software, and Mechanical Engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of all product elements.
  • Support sustaining engineering activities, including managing obsolescence and ensuring continuity for existing electronic products and modules.
  • Assist with supply chain management by sourcing components from suppliers and vendors and supporting the migration of manufacturing suppliers when needed.
  • Contribute hands-on technical support, dedicating approximately 25% of time to executing and supporting tests on hardware and electronic systems.
  • Apply knowledge of analog, digital, and mixed-signal hardware design to understand technical trade-offs and guide project decisions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure telematics, displays, clusters, and other electronic modules meet quality, performance, and reliability requirements.
  • Document project plans, changes, and outcomes thoroughly to support traceability and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate effectively with engineering teams in multiple locations to align priorities, resolve issues, and maintain project momentum.

Essential Skills

  • At least 7 years of relevant professional experience in project management within hardware, electrical, or electronics engineering environments.
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong project management experience with a proven ability to manage several projects at the same time.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using Gantt charts for project planning, scheduling, and tracking.
  • Solid background in hardware engineering and electrical engineering, with familiarity in hardware design and electrical design.
  • Experience with analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronics.
  • Ability to step in and support or execute hardware and electronics tests as needed.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present clear updates and recommendations to project stakeholders.
  • Experience working with suppliers and vendors in the context of electronics, modules, and components.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, including software and mechanical engineering.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with sustaining engineering and managing product obsolescence for electronic components and modules.
  • Knowledge in automotive electronics, telematics, displays, clusters, and electronic control modules.
  • Experience with PCB and hardware design workflows, including PCB design and firmware considerations.
  • Familiarity with program management practices in addition to project management.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a small, agile engineering team while leveraging the resources and processes of a larger organization.
  • Comfort working from concept to completion on design and development projects with a high degree of autonomy in decision-making.
Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Darien, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
