As a Maintenance Operator I in the Public Works Department you'll play a key role in maintaining and repairing streets, maintaining and repairing sewer lines and equipment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND TRAINING

One (1) year of experience in performing semi-skilled building or mechanical, construction, electrical, plumbing, or grounds maintenance tasks is required.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND TRAINING

A Class B CDL is preferred.

High school graduate or GED equivalent is preferred.

MISCELLANEOUS REQUIREMENTS

Must be at least 18 years of age.

A passing grade on the written portion of the Class B CDL exam will be required within one year of employment.

Must possess a valid driver's license and must be insurable under the City of Kimberling City's motor vehicle coverage when operating a vehicle as a part of the position.

Must be willing to work snow routes that include 10 to 12-hour shifts during the winter months when needed.

Must be willing to work on call, as assigned, to answer grinder/sewer emergencies after normal working hours.

Must act safely and follow safety standards and procedures while at work.

Must be able to pass a background investigation and drug and alcohol screenings and a physical agility screening.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: The starting hourly wage is $18.00 per hour and will increase after 6 months of successful probation.

Maintenance Worker I Public Works Department

General Purpose of Position

Completes maintenance of public facilities and works on capital projects as assigned

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Maintains streets

Completes patchwork and crack sealing as needed

Fills potholes using appropriate materials

Prepares roads and curbs for paving and line painting

Assists with snow removal and plowing

Assists with street sign installation and Maintenance

Mows and trims as necessary

Clears roadways of trash and limbs

Maintains and installs sewer system

Checks and maintains lines, wells, lift stations, grinder pumps, and other system components

Removes and replaces components when determined necessary

Checks and cleans system components to assure proper operation

Responds to and fix breaks and leaks

Uses basic equipment to complete various departmental activities

Checks equipment before each use

Determines when equipment needs to be used

Operates equipment according to safety guidelines and supervisor direction

Maintains equipment and general vehicle maintenance

Makes sure equipment and vehicles are ready for use

Notifies Public Works Manager when supplies or inventory are needed

Performs safety checks and basic maintenance on equipment and vehicles

Follows all procedures when fueling equipment

Prepares work areas for installations and repairs

Digs trenches following appropriate safety measures

Uses proper material for pipe laying and pipe bed

Performs appropriate backfilling and landscaping

Maintains City buildings and facilities

Performs routine and necessary carpentry, electrical, and plumbing

Performs other necessary cleaning or maintenance duties

Maintains Park equipment and landscape as needed

Performs other duties related to departmental activities

Attend training and other professional development as needed or required

Complete general water and wastewater maintenance activities

Assists with concrete work and laying asphalt

Backfill sinkholes and other depressions

Performs similar duties for other City departments

Performs other duties as directed

Education and Experience

The person in this position must be able to read and write in English; a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. A minimum of one year of experience in public works fields is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Licenses and Certifications

Must be able to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol test and random drug and alcohol testing.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge

Proper installation, maintenance and repair of streets, water and wastewater systems

Proper storage and use of various chemicals

Lift station operations and maintenance

Basic civil engineering for determining and digging grades

Basic environmental standards for water, sewer, and wastewater treatment systems

Layout of city streets

Turf management principles and practices

Basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical and concrete techniques

Maintenance methods of grounds, buildings, and equipment

Basic equipment maintenance and repair

Proper materials and equipment

Basic understanding of city and State laws, codes, and ordinances

Departmental policies, rules and regulations

Federal and state statutes concerning the work of the department

Mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication

General functions and operations of municipal government
