As a Roadway CAD Design Technician based in Reston, VA, youll work closely with engineers, project managers, and multidisciplinary design teams to develop high-quality construction plans and technical drawings for roadway, highway, intersection, streetscape, drainage, and multimodal transportation improvements. This role is a strong opportunity for a detail-oriented CAD professional who enjoys transportation design, plan production, and collaborating with experienced roadway engineers on meaningful infrastructure projects across Virginia.

When you join us you'll be responsible for:

Supporting the development and review of 2D and 3D roadway construction drawings.

Assisting with roadway design plan production for VDOT and local agency transportation projects.

Preparing and updating plan sheets, typical sections, alignments, profiles, cross sections, grading plans, drainage details, erosion and sediment control plans, signing and pavement marking plans, maintenance of traffic plans, and construction details.

Working under the direction of senior engineers and designers to support roadway, highway, intersection, and corridor improvement projects.

Using CAD design software to support preliminary and final design deliverables.

Coordinating with roadway, drainage, traffic, structures, utilities, environmental, survey, and construction support team members.

Assisting with quantity takeoffs, plan revisions, redline updates, and quality control reviews.

Supporting the organization and management of project drawings, files, references, and design documentation.

Participating in project meetings both virtually and in person.

Helping deliver accurate, complete, and timely design packages for transportation clients throughout Virginia.

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Professional experience using AutoCAD, MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, Civil 3D, or similar CAD design software.

Familiarity with or previous experience supporting roadway, transportation, civil site, or infrastructure design projects.

Understanding of CAD drafting standards, plan organization, and construction drawing production.

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and document management tools.

Ability to switch between multiple applications and manage electronic project files.

Strong attention to detail, time management, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to complete assigned tasks accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.

Previous experience supporting roadway design projects throughout Virginia and familiarity with VDOT design standards, plan preparation practices, and project delivery processes.

Ideally, Youll Also Have

Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Drafting, CAD Technology, or a related technical field.

Exposure to roadway plans, drainage plans, maintenance of traffic plans, signing and pavement marking plans, erosion and sediment control plans, or utility coordination drawings.

Familiarity with Bluebeam for plan review and markups.

Previous experience working with multidisciplinary transportation design teams.
