HDR has an excellent career opportunity in our NY/NJ Area for a professional to lead the development and growth of our Construction Management Services within the NY/NJ Water Business Group. The NY/NJ Construction Field Services Lead is a professional who is excited about taking on the responsibility for coordination, monitoring, and improvement of technical competencies of construction management staff with a focus on meeting client needs and market drivers.

The NY/NJ Construction Field Services Lead will report to the Area Water Business Group Manager and team with our Area Business Development Manager, Water Market Sector Client Managers, Regional Construction Field Services Lead, Project Managers, and technical staff to support Construction Management business development and project delivery in the area.

Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Construction Field Services Lead , we'll count on you take responsibility for the coordination, monitoring and, improvement of technical competencies of business class staff and products with a focus on meeting client needs and market drivers. Primary responsibilities include advancing business development strategies, developing and pursuing new clients and projects, client management, project management for key projects, technical input on projects, and staff development. The selected candidate will have developed good writing, presenting, and speaking skills, as they will work directly with clients and staff. Responsibilities also include collaborating with other technical and marketing staff in the pursuit of new projects, taking a leadership role in selected key pursuits, and serving as client manager for key clients, providing leadership in addressing client issues and coordination of multiple projects. The specific responsibilities of this position are divided into Marketing and Strategy, Staff Development, Operations Leadership, and Project Delivery.

Marketing and Strategy responsibilities\:

Work with the Business Development Manager to deploy pursuit strategies, business development tactics and support client relationship development and pursuit processes based on proven capture techniques.

Support selected pursuits through client relationship development and/or through development of strategy, tactics, value-added technical differentiation, and participation in pursuit activities.

Develop and drive a long-range Construction Field Services vision and strategy for HDRs NY/NJ Area Water Business Group.

Serve as a client manager to select agencies and be active and visible in the industry through client relationship development, participation in professional organizations, conference presentations, and conduct of client development workshops.

Lead HDRs branding in the NY/NJ area by engaging in professional organizations aligned to the market and serving as a company role-model in business and community organizations.

Staff Development responsibilities\:

Participate in business class practice and professional discipline groups, project teams, and activities to continually improve standards and best practices

Work with area leadership to coordinate staffing/recruiting plans for key hires and assist leadership as necessary with technical or project management hires.

Mentor staff and support the development of technical experts and business class leaders.

Lead the Area in identifying needs and opportunities for new and improved technical services and products to maximize the breadth, depth, and effectiveness of the practice.

Operations Leadership responsibilities\:

Work with the Area Water Business Group Manager and Area Business Development Manager in the development and delivery of Area market sector initiatives.

Support project staffing and resourcing decisions, workload, and Market Sector utilization.

Implement effective quality assurance and quality control reviews

Manage business class staff, workload, and projects and participate in delivery of project services to meet client expectations

Project Delivery responsibilities\:

Implement effective quality assurance and quality control reviews

Coordinate local bidding efforts for quotes obtained in the field

Assist in procurement of purchase orders and subcontract packages

Perform construction management activities, including development procurement - construction schedules, construction subcontract scopes, review of subcontract terms and conditions, performance of constructability and value engineering reviews, construction estimating and schedule reviews, and project construction performance presentations

Perform value engineering and constructability reviews

Coordinate, expedite, and review construction submittals

Control the project budget and schedule

Ensure subcontractor compliance with the Health and Safety Program through communication and inspections

Prepare and update project schedules, pay requests, progress reports, budgets, and schedule management reports

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field

Minimum 10 years of experience

Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values

Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience experienced in development and management of diverse teams

Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts

An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand.

  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM) by Construction Management Association of America

  • Professional Engineer in New York

  • Preference given to local candidates

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Planning, Sciences, Business Administration, or a closely related field
  • Program management experience consistent with one of the following requirements:
  • A minimum of three (3) years of program management experience in a deputy role to the Program Manager for the delivery of one or more programs, with a cumulative capital value of $200 million or more, or;
  • A minimum of five (5) years of program management experience as a Project Manager or Project Controls Manager for the delivery of one or more programs, each with a capital value of $200 million or more, or;
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of project management experience as a Project Manager directing a multi-disciplinary team for the delivery of at least two (2) projects, each with a capital value of $50 million or more
  • Strong leadership skills with experience building a cohesive team culture and managing team members in various locations.
  • Excellent communication skills. Comfortable presenting to client executives and in front of a large audience in a public setting
  • Management experience with the implementation of projects or programs using alternative and collaborative delivery methods, including design-build (DB), progressive design-build (PDB), and/or construction management at-risk (CMAR)
  • Familiar with the various tools used to manage large programs - PMIS, CMIS, scheduling, cost control, document management, risk management, asset management, dashboard analytics, etc.
