Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Lab Planning Project Manager for a direct hire opportunity in Austin, TX. This hybrid role supports highly technical lab retrofit and facility modification projects within advanced hardware, engineering, and research environments.

The Lab Planning Project Manager will sit at the front end of the project lifecycle, serving as a key technical and operational gatekeeper for incoming facility requests. This role is ideal for a senior project management professional who understands complex facilities, MEP-intensive environments, lab planning, and early-phase project feasibility.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead intake, kickoff, and early-stage evaluation of facility change requests for lab retrofit and modification projects.
- Translate end-user operational needs into clear facility requirements, scope definitions, and feasibility documentation.
- Conduct site walks to evaluate existing conditions, infrastructure readiness, MEP capacity, constructability, and project risks.
- Coordinate cross-functional reviews with facilities, EHS, engineering, project controls, design partners, and contractors.
- Develop rough order of magnitude cost and schedule estimates, while identifying permitting, shutdown, code, and long-lead item impacts.
- Prepare standardized feasibility reports and ensure a seamless handoff to execution project management teams.

Compensation and Benefits

- Salary range: $150,000 to $175,000 per year, depending on experience.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Manage feasibility planning and front-end scoping for technically complex lab and facility projects.
- Lead project intake, stakeholder alignment, site validation, and scope definition activities.
- Evaluate MEP systems, infrastructure constraints, technical risks, constructability, permitting, and schedule impacts.
- Coordinate with end users, facilities teams, EHS, engineering partners, architects, contractors, and project controls.

- 10+ years of relevant project management experience in technical, construction, engineering, or complex facility environments.
- Experience with labs, clean rooms, advanced manufacturing, MEP-heavy projects, or complex tenant improvements.
- Strong understanding of early-phase project scoping, feasibility evaluation, or owners representative responsibilities.
- Ability to assess power, HVAC, gases, structural capacity, code requirements, Fire/Life Safety triggers, and regulatory considerations.
- Experience working with external architects, engineers, general contractors, and cross-functional technical stakeholders.
- Strong communication, organization, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-moving, highly technical, and detail-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications

- Clean room or controlled environment project experience.
- Experience with AR/VR, hardware labs, research labs, or advanced technology environments.
- Strong exposure to MEP design, construction management, or capital project delivery.
- Experience supporting high-complexity facilities in semiconductor, data center, life sciences, pharmaceutical, aerospace, airport, or critical infrastructure environments.
- Owners representative, engineering consulting, or construction management background.
