Brush Crew Foreman
General Purpose:
This position is responsible for leading and supervising the Brush Crew in vegetation management, trail corridor clearing, visibility improvement, and mountain maintenance projects. The Brush Crew Foreman oversees daily field operations, crew safety, equipment readiness, work quality, and project productivity while actively participating in field operations. This role requires strong leadership, organizational ability, and practical field knowledge in steep mountain terrain. The Foreman ensures projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with department goals.
This is a seasonal position from 6/15/26 to 10/29/26. Dates are subject to change based on the availability of the applicant and needs of the business. Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Lead daily brush crew operations including project planning, worksite organization, and task delegation
Oversee vegetation clearing, brush cutting, trimming, and corridor maintenance projects
Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce PPE and safe equipment practices
Train and mentor crew members on brush saws, trimmers, hand tools, and operational procedures
Coordinate equipment, fuel, transportation, and jobsite logistics
Monitor work quality, pace, and team productivity
Evaluate terrain and environmental hazards to ensure safe crew movement and operation
Perform and oversee equipment and vehicle inspections, maintenance, and troubleshooting
Support all Trails, Snowmaking, and construction crews as operational needs require
Communicate project updates and field conditions with supervisors
Assist in incident response and field problem-solving
Maintain accurate awareness of crew location, workload, and operational efficiency throughout the workday
Maintain accountability for crew attendance, readiness, and performance
Other Responsibilities:
Assist with hiring input, onboarding, and crew development
Support with trail construction, erosion control, revegetation, fencing, and infrastructure
Identify workflow improvements and efficiency opportunities
Help departmental planning and project coordination
Maintain high standards of professionalism, accountability, and team culture
Other duties as assigned
QualificationsKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Strong experience in landscaping, forestry, farming, construction, or outdoor labor, and hiking preferred.
This role requires:
Leadership and crew oversight ability
Strong situational awareness and hazard recognition
Effective communication and delegation
Organizational and logistical planning skills
Physical stamina and terrain competence
Mechanical familiarity with brush saws and small engine equipment
Strong initiative, accountability, and quality control
Additional strengths include initiative, accountability, memory, reasoning, professionalism, and leadership by example.
Special Certifications/Licensing:
Valid Driver’s License required
Preferred:
Brush saw / small engine operational experience
Chainsaw experience
OSHA or equipment safety certifications
Supervisory or leadership experience in outdoor labor, forestry, or construction
Education or Formal Training:
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience:
Minimum 1-2 years in related field strongly preferred
Previous crew leadership or foreman experience strongly preferred
Working Environment/Physical Activities:
99% of the workday is spent outdoors in a mountain forest environment, in changing weather conditions including but not limited to: extreme cold and heat, wind, snow, rain, thunder and lightning storms. 30% of the workday is spent standing and 60% is spent walking on uneven terrain. 10% of the workday is spent sitting.
Frequent balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, talking and listening, using near and far acuity depth perception, color and field of vision. Occasionally climbing, crawling, feeling, and smelling. Frequently lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally weighing up to 100lbs.
