JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Mechanic is a high-level technical and leadership role responsible for ensuring the peak operational efficiency, safety, and reliability of the Ready-Mix fleet and associated mobile equipment. This position goes beyond standard repairs, requiring advanced diagnostic capabilities and the ability to lead daily shop activities. You will oversee the maintenance of on-highway diesel trucks (specifically mixers), front-end loaders, and support equipment, minimizing downtime through proactive planning and expert-level mechanical execution. As a 'Senior' team member, you are expected to mentor junior mechanics, manage work orders, and strictly uphold Martin Marietta's world-class safety culture.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Utilize advanced computer diagnostic software and precision testing equipment to identify and resolve complex issues in diesel engines, transmissions, and electronic control systems.
- Lead the dismantling, overhauling, and reassembling of major components, including engines, power trains, and specialized hydraulic systems unique to concrete mixers.
- Perform expert-level repairs on air brake systems (ensuring full DOT compliance) and heavy-duty suspension/steering components.
- Execute high-quality welding, cutting, and metal fabrication for equipment modifications or structural repairs.
- Diagnose and repair specialized mixer components, including drums, rollers, high-pressure water systems, and hydraulic drives.
- Assist the Manager in scheduling daily shop tasks, validating timecards, and ensuring the accuracy and quality of all repairs performed by the team.
- Function as a technical resource for junior mechanics and drivers; provide 'on-the-tool' training to improve the overall skill level of the fleet department.
- Proactively research and order parts, maintaining an organized inventory to ensure critical spares are available, reducing equipment 'wait time.'
- Implementation and enforcement of Martin Marietta Health andamp; Safety standards, including Guarding, Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), and Fall Protection.
- Conduct thorough OSHA pre-shift inspections and annual vehicle evaluations to ensure all equipment meets federal and state regulatory requirements.
- Maintain meticulous digital and physical logs of all maintenance activities, PM schedules, and work orders to ensure audit readiness.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Vocational training or relevant experience
Work Experience
3+ years of Heavy Equipment or On-Highway Truck Maintenance experience.
Direct experience with Ready-Mix concrete trucks and their specialized hydraulic/mechanical components is a significant advantage.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. for plant maintenance and equipment servicing.
Required to bend, stoop, climb, and reach. You must be able to maintain three points of contact when climbing on/off machinery or on ladders.
Strong hand-eye-foot coordination is essential for operating hand/foot controls. You must have good depth perception with or without seeing aid for distances up to 150 feet.
Working Conditions
All duties require outside assignments and require periods of work in all weather conditions, cold, wet, dry and dusty.andnbsp;Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 85 dbs.
Mechanics are required to provide their own hand tools.
