Assistant Superintendent Job Description The Assistant Superintendent supports field leadership on commercial construction projects within the biopharmaceutical sector, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and schedule adherence. In this role, you assist the Superintendent in coordinating subcontractors, overseeing day-to-day site activities, and ensuring projects are completed on time, within scope, and in compliance with GMP and applicable codes. The position requires prior commercial construction experience in biopharmaceutical facilities and a proven commitment to maintaining a safe work environment. While the main office is based in Thousand Oaks, candidates may live in other locations and be assigned to projects near their residence; candidates local to Ventura County must be open to commuting to Los Angeles as needed. Responsibilities Assist the Superintendent in leading field operations on commercial construction projects in biopharmaceutical and healthcare environments. Coordinate daily activities of subcontractors and general labor to ensure work progresses safely, efficiently, and according to plan. Support the planning and execution of interior upgrades, including work in medical equipment areas and patient rooms. Ensure all work complies with GMP requirements and relevant FDA codes, as well as local building codes and regulations. Monitor and enforce strict safety standards on-site, promptly addressing any unsafe conditions or behaviors. Participate in the implementation of construction safety programs, including adherence to OSHA 30 guidelines and company safety policies. Review blueprints, drawings, and specifications to verify that installations and construction activities meet design and quality expectations. Assist with quality control checks to ensure workmanship meets project standards and client expectations. Support project management tasks such as tracking progress, reporting issues, and helping maintain project schedules. Oversee and assist with installation activities related to carpentry, electrical, mechanical, and other trades as needed. Use hand tools and equipment safely and effectively while maintaining an organized and clean job site. Communicate professionally with hospital staff, clients, subcontractors, and team members to minimize disruption to patient care and facility operations. Adapt to varying shift schedules, including occasional swing shifts, to accommodate hospital operations and patient needs. Maintain a high level of professionalism at all times, particularly when working in active hospital environments and sensitive patient areas. Essential Skills Proven construction experience in the biopharmaceutical industry. Strong understanding of GMP requirements and knowledge of FDA codes applicable to biopharmaceutical and healthcare construction. Demonstrated experience in commercial construction projects. Solid experience with construction supervision and assisting or acting in a superintendent capacity. Hands-on experience with general contractor and subcontractor management. Strong commitment to safety, with the ability to identify, correct, and prevent unsafe conditions. Knowledge of OSHA 30 construction safety principles and practices. Experience in construction safety programs and site safety enforcement. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and construction documents. Experience with quality control on construction projects. Familiarity with construction management and project management processes in a field environment. Practical experience with installation work, including carpentry, electrical, mechanical, and general labor tasks. Proficiency with hand tools and basic construction equipment. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse project stakeholders. High level of professionalism, especially when working in active hospital and patient care environments. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in hospital or healthcare facilities, particularly in patient rooms and medical equipment areas. Exposure to interior upgrade projects in operational healthcare environments. Experience in engineering, construction management, or a related technical discipline. Experience working as or alongside a Superintendent on commercial construction projects. Familiarity with code compliance in healthcare and biopharmaceutical facilities. Ability to adapt to changing shift times, including occasional swing shifts (for example, 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM) based on project and hospital requirements. Willingness to commute to various hospital sites, including locations in Los Angeles and surrounding areas. Typical shifts run from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM or 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturday work based on project demands. At times, you may work swing shifts, such as 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM, to avoid disrupting patient care during daytime hours. The role involves regular use of hand tools and interaction with carpentry, electrical, mechanical, and other trades on-site. You work in a structured, safety-focused setting where attention to detail, cleanliness, and respect for hospital operations are essential. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Thousand Oaks, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $48.00/hr.
