Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Pipe Foreman to oversee the installation of underground water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage systems. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of progressive utility construction experience and be comfortable leading a crew in the field. This role requires strong technical knowledge, a proactive approach to jobsite safety, and the ability to read and implement engineered plans with precision.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a crew installing underground utilities including water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage systems.
- Ensure all work is completed safely, particularly in deep excavations using proper shoring and trench safety methods.
- Coordinate traffic control setups and work around existing utilities.
- Oversee dewatering operations, bypass pumping, and heavy equipment usage.
- Perform and supervise leak testing, pipe alignment, and system installation in accordance with local specifications.
- Ensure the job site is always kept in a clean and organized manner.
- Read and interpret construction drawings; set up and verify pipe lasers; apply grade and alignment data accurately.
- Maintain clear, organized daily records using a computer or tablet each day.
- Communicate effectively with team members, inspectors, subcontractors, and project managers to provide updates and address concerns.
Qualifications
- Solid Leadership skills.
- Punctual and dependable.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in utility construction.
- Strong working knowledge of wet utilities, excavation safety, heavy equipment, and local construction standards.
- Willingness to receive and give constructive performance feedback.
- Ability to read and interpret engineered plans, set grade, and operate layout tools.
- Proficient with jobsite documentation and computer-based recordkeeping.
- Manage time and competing priorities.
- OSHA 30-hour, Confined Space, and Competent Person certifications are a plus.
