What We're Looking For:

Barge Design Solutions is currently seeking to fill the position of Traffic Engineer (PE) in our Nashville, TN office.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Conduct and manage Traffic Impact Studies (TIS) for various development projects.

  • Perform operational analyses using Synchro, SIDRA, and HCS to evaluate intersection and corridor performance.

  • Design and review traffic signal plans, including phasing, wiring, and detection layouts, in compliance with TDOT and local standards.

  • Collaborates with project team members, client representatives, review agencies to resolve a variety of complex problems

  • Supervises the work of less experienced engineers and/or technical support personnel assigned to the project

  • Prepares and reviews technical reports, drawings, plans, specifications, and permits for projects

  • Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents

  • Prepares cost estimates for assigned projects

  • Conducts project site visits, as needed

  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail

  • Demonstrates strong organizational and time management skills; Works independently on multiple tasks without immediate supervision

  • Builds and maintains excellent interpersonal relationships

  • Demonstrates working knowledge of Tennessee Department of Transportation and Nashville Department of Transportation systems, policies, and procedures

  • Understands standard operations, policies and procedures of a firm, preferably within the A/E industry

  • Performs other duties as requested

Education & Experience Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology from an accredited program

  • Minimum of 5 years of traffic engineering experience

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in TN or an ability to obtain PE in TN within 6 months of start date is required

  • Experience using CAD software such as OpenRoads, AutoCAD or MicroStation V8i is required

  • Experience using traffic modeling software such as Synchro, Vistro, or SIDRA is required

  • Working knowledge of the practical application of engineering principles, practices and techniques, including MUTCD, HCM, and ITE Trip Generation Manual

  • Skill using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel

  • NDOT and/or TDOT project experience is desired
