This is a skilled work in the repair and reconditioning of diesel and gas driven automotive, truck and other power driven equipment, also body repairing and spray paintingMakes mechanical repairs to various types of light and heavy duty equipment; including automobiles, trucks, backhoes, front end loaders, air compressors, trailers, rodders, bucket machines, sewer jets, pumps, generators and any miscellaneous power driven equipment. Requires thorough understanding of both diesel, gasoline engines and vehicle computer system. Repairs include but are not necessarily limited to: inspection and trouble shooting, engine overhauls, hydraulic repairs, brakes, starters, transmissions, power take off units, differential work. Performs body repair and spray painting. Responds to emergency calls for road service as required. may on occasions supervise on or two helpers in connection with such work. May be assigned to assist in plant equipment repairs. Is responsible for all oil, replacement vehicle parts, tools, and equipment in shop, as well as keeping the shop and parts areas clean and organized. Operates repair benches, floor and hand tools, computerized tune up equipment. Two years experience in repairing light and heavy equipment or a combination of experience and training. Thorough knowledge of diesel and gasoline powered vehicles and equipment. Thorough knowledge of the assembly and operation of motor vehicles, skill in diagnosing mechanical trouble and in to making repairs. Knowledge of vehicle body repair and spray painting. Ability to use electronic diagnostic equipment in trouble shooting and repair of diesel and gasoline engines. also must be able to do simple welding using either stick or MIG welding. Must currently hold and maintain a current State of Ohio Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with tanker and air brake endorsements while employed in this position.

BONUS POINTS WILL BE ADDED FOR APPLICANTS WHO FULFILL THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

20% Military (DD-214 showing 180 days of active duty service and proof of honorable discharge required)

15% Reserve Component Status (Proof of completion of initial entry-level training)

15% Proof of City Residency (submit four (4) different proofs of residency from one (1) year ago and four (4) different current proofs of residency total of 8)

15% Possession of an ASE Master Automotive Mechanic Certification (Applicant must submit proof of certification).

*****As provided for in Youngstown City Ordinance ORD-11-244 and in accordance with the City of Youngstown Charter, Section 52 (E) any candidate who is a bona fide resident of the City of Youngstown for at least one year immediately prior to an entry level examination and remains a resident citizen of the City of Youngstown throughout the selection process, as determined by the Civil Service Commission, at the time of filing his or her application for examination, shall, if a passing grade is attained, have a credit of fifteen percent (15%) added to his or her raw score. The Applicant must show proof of residency by providing the following: Drivers License, Bank Statements, Utility Bills, Mortgage Release/Lease, and/or Insurance Statements.
