Responsibilities

Position Summary:

  • The Laser Operator Technician overlooks the operations of the laser machines, including training new laser operators.
  • The Laser Operator Technician produces laser cuts for fabrication processes by setting up, programming, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) laser cutting machine in a safe, productive manner; ensuring all quality standards are met or exceeded.
  • The Laser Operator Technician must be familiar with and know how to maintain sheet metal fabrication equipment such as lasers and will be expected to know how to troubleshoot PLC and drive systems on various types of lasers.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Performs troubleshooting and reasonable repairs in accordance with Safety and OSHA (Occupational and Safety Health Act) requirements
  • Assists in managing team members work in completion of tasks
  • Verifies accuracy and quality
  • Inspects for damages or defects, records issues, and notifies supervisor
  • Maintains department database, prepares routine reports, and files records
  • Operates department material handling equipment
  • Follows departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous improvement objectives, and safety rules
  • Operates single or multiple CNC laser cutting machine, including loading raw material and ensuring quality by maintaining focal point adjustment, feed rate, power, and other parameters
  • Ensures machine optics are maintained by performing tests and procedures, including tape shots, lens focusing, lens cleaning, nozzle cleaning, and replacement of any worn items
  • Monitors laser operations to ensure machine is functioning properly and safely; records machine code errors and communicates performance issues to the supervisor
  • Uses inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, and tape measure
  • Maintains quality, productivity, and safety records
  • Maintains supplies and performs regular preventive maintenance
  • Assists other operators with operating, inspecting, and cleaning machines and parts
  • Maintains cleanliness of work area
  • Employees are responsible for complying with all requirements of Daifukus QMS policies and procedures.
  • Employees are to ensure sustainable process outputs that drive continuous improvement to provide leading industry performance and exceptional customer satisfaction.
Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in CNC Laser operating/programing field
  • Certificate and completion of CNC Laser operation training program

  • Knowledge of CNC laser- programing/nesting
  • Ability to read a tape measure and micrometer
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work under time constraints and meet deadlines
  • Team-oriented and collaborative
  • LOTO certification required
  • Forklift operation certification required
  • Crane operation certification required
  • Big Joe operation certification required

ADA Requirements:

  • Medium work : Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Stooping : Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Crouching : Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Reaching : Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Standing : Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Walking : Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Pushing : Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
  • Pulling : Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Talking : Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Hearing : Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.
  • Repetitive motions : Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Visual Acuity:

  • The worker is required to: have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
  • The worker is required to: have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles.
  • The worker is required to: have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures.

Job Conditions:

  • The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
  • The worker is subject to outside environmental conditions: No effective protection from weather.
  • The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
  • The worker is required to: function in narrow aisles or passageways.
