SUMMARY
SUNY Brockport is accepting applications for a Print Equipment Operator 1 (Digital). The Print Equipment Operator 1 (Digital) for Print and Mail Services performs the light manufacturing work needed for the production of documents, stationary and commercial print products. Such work may consist of, but is not limited to the setup and operation of digital printing presses (both cutsheet and large format), programmable guillotine paper cutters, flatbed cutters, folders, slitter/cutter/creaser machines, drills and bookletmaking equipment. Supporting work functions include electronic file setup using Fiery Command Workstation and Onyx RIP software, occasional wall/window/floor graphics installation, document preparation tasks, assisting campus clients via phone, email, and in person, mailroom support when needed, and performing other related activities needed in the manufacturing of quality print media materials and signage.
This is a hands on production floor position manufacturing print media materials in a light manufacturing work environment.
JOB FUNCTIONS
- Works with CMYK+ color space; evaluates and adjusts production color via a software interface.
- Works with Adobe Acrobat Pro and print job management systems such as Fiery Command Workstation and Onyx.
- Operates production color digital presses like those manufactured by industry leaders such as Ricoh, Xerox and Canon.
- Operates production large format flatbed UV and latex roll-to-roll printers like those manufactured by industry leaders such as Ricoh, Mimaki and Canon.
- Operates digital production bindery machines like those manufactured by industry leaders such as Duplo, Morgana, Colex and Baum.
- Works with fine printing paper grades and specifications.
- Answers questions from and provides information to various parties regarding department activities, workflow and procedures. Refer inquiries to supervisors as necessary.
- Operates various communication systems such as telephones and computers; and keep records of such communications.
- Performs routine processing activities; checks print projects for completeness and accuracy.
- Receives, reviews, and sets up print jobs for production from online storefront production queue.
- Packages completed jobs and prepares them for campus delivery.
- Assists with local campus graphics installations as needed - wall, window, and floor graphics both indoors and outdoors.
- Receives, unloads, unpacks, sorts, stores, counts, and distributes goods received by the office following established procedure.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
There are no minimum education or experience requirements for this title.
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a noncompetitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in digital in-plant or commercial print shop, including both cutsheet and large format print production
- Knowledge of and/or experience in digital print shop pre-press procedures using Apple and/or PC computer operating systems
- Experience in front end/RIP software and procedures
- Experience in large format print material installation

Work Schedule:
37.5 hours/week: Monday - Friday 8am - 4pm
