CAREER OPPORTUNITY

Electrical & Instrumentation Assistant Maintenance Superintendent at the Covington Virginia Mill. This position reports to the E&I Maintenance Superintendent. Work with production, maintenance and engineering departments on projects related to continuing process improvement and equipment reliability. Proven leadership, team building, and motivational skills is a key competency in this position.

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT SMURFIT WESTROCK

  • As the E&I Assistant Maintenance Superintendent you will lead and drive continuous improvement in Covington Mill.
  • Provide effective coaching and communication to your team members to ensure that goals and objectives are obtained.
  • Ensure that training programs are developed and implemented for your staff. This will ensure that all staff members are competent and informed to implement and continuously improve the many E&I Systems in the mill. This includes training in safety; environmental awareness; process knowledge; business knowledge; Electrical & Instrumentation systems knowledge; and teamwork.
  • Coordinates the development of area specific Departmental Goals and work within the budgets to ensure compliance with company goals, objectives, and strategies. Write annual performance reviews and recommend salary action for direct reports.
  • Work with the E&I Superintendent & HR on staffing needs within the E&I Department.
  • The AMS will work with the E&I Engineers, Supervisors, Planners & Production counterparts to develop the annual maintenance budget.
  • Develop long range plans and coordinate the implementation of related E&I systems to ensure the long-term costs for system compatibility, application development, training, maintenance, and spare parts are optimized.
  • Work with the Engineering Department to recommend and implement Capital improvements and ensure project specifications are met.
  • Ensure that all policy and guidelines are followed: NFPA-70E, OSHA, NEC, FM Global recommendations, Power/Recovery Audit, ISO, Radiation Safety, etc.
  • Responsible that all employees understand and utilize all safety requirements of job functions; in addition to use all required PPE during job tasks. Position requires full knowledge of safety requirements and ensure compliance and accountability. Working knowledge all safety procedures (including LOTO, fall protection, confined space entry, hot work and JHA for each position, proper guarding, seat belts, dock locks, etc.). Employee must follow standard work procedures and safe work.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Minimum High School Diploma with 10 years of Industrial Electrical/Instrument experience.
  • Preferred Electrical Engineering/Technology Degree; or earned Journeyman qualifications by completing a 4-year Electrical and/or Instrumentation Apprenticeship program.
  • Successful experience in developing direct reports and utilization of coaching skills.
  • Experience working with organized labor union and contractual language.
  • Training/certifications/experience in E&I Maintenance Skills to ensure the proper support of the following systems: Safety Initiatives, Work Management (SAP/JDE), Planned and Scheduled Work, Power Generation/ Transmission and Distribution, Protective Relaying, Power Transformers, and Reliability Systems (SOP's, BOM's, PM's, RCFA's, Thermography, Property Conservation), OSHA, LOTO, LEO, Confined Space Entry, government/corporate/environmental regulations, Arc Flash Protection (NFPA-70e), Audit Compliance, PLC/DCS Architecture, UPS/Battery Systems, Large AC Synch Motors, DC Motors and Drives, VFD's, Valves, Instrumentation, Burner Management Systems, Loop Tuning and Optimization, Paper Machine fundamentals, Kiln and Precipitator Controls, NCG System, PSM requirements, NRC requirements
  • Computer skills on a variety of platforms are needed.
  • Organizational skills, communication, documentation and formal/informal reporting required.
